Age to neuter Cavalier Male puppy

We are the proud owners of a 11 week old Tricolor male Cavalier KCS. We will be neutering him and in searching the web, the American Association of Veterinary Medicine web site, my breeder and my Vet I am getting disparities in exactly WHEN it is ideal to neuter him. The info I am getting is as early as 8 weeks and as old a 6-12 months. Some data supports benefits in early neutering, others not. There is obviously no HARM in waiting until
6 months but I would like to know what the most recent evidence basedliterature says about early neutering.
Anybody who may know this information, Vets, Vet Assistants, Breeders, educated owners...your input is appreciated.
Thanks!!
Matthew

Early spay/neuter may have an effect on the puppy as far as growth goes - studies show they grow slightly taller than those dogs neutered later in life. There is also some evidence of a connection between osteosarcoma and early neuter, in Rotties (which are a cancer prone breed anyway) but that has not shown to be a signifigant issue. Early s/n does seem to have a much faster recovery time - a litter of sheltie/pit bull puppies that my sister fostered were done at 8 weeks and they were up and bouncing around as soon as the anesthesia wore off.

For males a recent JAMVA study supported early nuteruing in males (not females due to spay incontinence).
Personally I recommend my cocker males are nuteur at 7-8 months. I like them to get that initial dose of testosterone to develop some of the male charateristics.
Basically though, it really isn't critical for a boy when you do it. Figure out what works for your schedule, and do it then.

Early aage spay neuter is the norm in a shelter situation and the recovery time is actually much faster for the young ones. However, not all vets are comfortable doing the proceedure, and it usually is the discomfort of working on a very small reproductive tract rather than an actual health issue that prevents most vets from adopting juvenile spay/neuter as the norm. I assume that you've picked out a vet to care for your baby throughtout his life, and if you trust that particular vet's judgement for lifecare, then do whatever that vet is comfortable doing. However, I would personally not wait until puberty to have it done, because although that additional dose of testerone can help to bulk them up somewhat, it can also introduce behavior problems that you may have a hard time extinguishing.

Our vet preferred to wait a bit to neuter toy breed dogs so there was "something to see and work on " . The dog started humping the cat at about
5 months od age so we took him in then.
