[nq:1]I should explain, btw, that when I say "efficient jumping style" I'm talking about more than just the ability to ... abilities to gauge takeoff, to "slice" (take the jump at an angle), to adjust stride between jumps, and so forth.[/nq]
A power jumper. A dog who is a confident and nimble jumper. It involves far more than just teaching collection though most dogs do benefit greatly from training to collect. However, TOO much emphasis on collected jumping can actually make a dog inefficient. Dogs aren't horses and shouldn't jump like them. I frankly think there's too much emphasis at the moment about "jumping arched" and "jumping off the rear."

An efficient jumper leaves bars up, doesn't over jump, and is able to take the fastest and most efficient line around the course.

[nq:1]It's too far a drive for classes, but if you'd like to get in some spectating and meet some PA/MD agility folks, there's a NADAC trial in Oxford (down towards the MD border) the first weekend in October.[/nq]
I really need to meet some people in my area to go to these kinds of things with. I wouldn't mind the drive if I had someone to go along.

It'll happen. Once you start to get involved, you'll find a whole lot of people who like to convoy to out of town trials and hang out once settled.
A maxim: Volunteer, work hard, and have fun.

Matt. Rocky's a Dog.
