But of course, not everyone is the same. Just the other day I was waiting in the car when this horrible sound reached my ears. It was a pitbull. He didn't look too old, so he was probably a year or so. I don't know what he could've done to deserve a beating from his owner, but it couldn't have been so extreme that his owner had to slap his back 'til he hit the cement floor, DRAG him across the street, and hold him up the stairs by the COLLAR! And he was a pretty large dog. I can't imagine my mother carrying me about 10 feet and up a flight of stairs by my necklace... My dog was on my lap, watching along. She knows that something like that could and would never happen to her.
I have no idea how people are capable of treating another living being with such hate. But then again, many people hurt other people too. I know I couldn't haVe done anything. Trust me, I've tried before. Calling the SPCA would have caused nothing but trouble for that dog.
Anyways, I wanted to bring up the topic because the idea of animal abuse was eating me alive. I wanted to hear about it from other people and places. And I wanted to know that there are more people who oppose it than do it themselves.
As far as I know organizations like SPCA are not really well-developed in Russia, so it may be somewhat troublesome to oppose animal cruelty if you come across any. On the other hand, I don't witness animal abuse very often here. Maybe I'm just lucky. But as long as there people who love animals and realize the unity of humans, animals, and the nature, I'm sure this world is not lost.
I used to take such incidents to heart, but at some point I realized that cruelty is in the wild nature itself, the most explicit example being predator & prey connection. The only thing that differs it from what humans do is that predators kill other animals to survive, while people can do that just for "fun". But the result is the same anyway. This thought made me regard such situations more... hmm.. philosophically. I mean, there is always "something" and the opposite of this "something", it's how the world is, and we can do nothing about it. You can just decide what "side" you belong to, i.e. how you decide to act and how to view things. As long as you can do anything to change a situation, do it. But don't "eat" yourself alive if there's obviously nothing you can do...
People are waiting to help.
