[nq:2]no offense to poodle owners, but it just looks weird to me to see testicles on a dog with a bouffant.[/nq]
[nq:1]I decided that Miki, the poodle, looked like John Taylor from Duran Duran. Pretty boy with big girly hair. Cate[/nq]
LOL now that is a great analogy.

And I don't argue that at all. Again the "working line" GSD is a perfect example. And yet they too have issuses with health, with temperment etc. They sure can work in Military but I suspect many are retired at early ages because their body breaks down before their wonderful minds do.

[nq:2]KEVIN!! YaY! What a Pemmie he is.[/nq]
[nq:1]I like him too. The only thing I would change on him I'd give him more pigment, put him a little ... tad refined for a boy, but very handsome nonetheless. -Abby Pems, Aussie, and a Pug *Remove shoes to reply*[/nq]
He really looks a lot like Reznor. And my trainer even mentioned that yesterday. She told me that is why she loves Reznor so much and wants to handle him for me from time to time.

Scratch all that...I think I've confused my Corgis! I think the PWC that was in Portland was the Sammy Sosa dog, not Kevin...
I was watching the Belgians, that's my excuse! :-) Shelly & The Boys

[nq:1]That's true in theory, but the reality is that fashions in the breed ring don't always honor the requirements for ... subset of the fingers of one hand. The breed ring may not be the best place to evaluate working conformation.[/nq]
A valid point. Our STANDARD describes a superbly constructed working dog, a sprinter, a short-backed galloper who is agile and fast. Unfortunately what is winning big in the ring at the moment tends to be long, huge, clunky, straight-fronted, pigeon-breasted, and overangulated in the rear.
However, that doesn't make the show ring totally bad. A smart breeder can look at what's in the ring and find the dogs that do have good structure they're there and they do win, just not as often as the "show-dog-caricature" dogs. And just as you would with an agility trial, you pick a good judge and watch what he or she does. Good judges can find correct dogs and don't always go with the fad of the moment.

I'm lucky I guess. I've been in the breed enough years that I know good working structure when I see it. I don't need a dog to have a Ch to tell me whether it's good. But it takes a long time to get to that level, and it's not fun for newbies. But then again, the same types of biases and problems can also be given for temperament, working ability, and even health testing. The title never tells the whole story!!

I hope you don't think that's what I was saying. I certainly didn't mean to word things such that anyone would think I was insulting conformance showing.

I can't recall where Kevin is from but it seems as though he might live in Texas.
I was thrilled he beat Sammy Sosa though.

Tara I understood your point overall. I can see your concerns.

As I mentioned I have major concerns with the one
judge panel in this high profile show. I really think it would be a better idea to have a 3-4 judge
panel in which each judge rated the dog. JMO.

Agreed. Many show Greyhounds look like a cross between a giraffe and an angelfish, with so little muscle that it's difficult to imagine them ever having run, let alone being able to course. Of course, the best breeders have coursing titles on their dogs, but a great many don't.
