Hi,
Teddy is a little over 3 months old now. He's on track to be weaned soon. The spoon feeding is out of the picture and he started to eats little veggies here and there mixed with a little formula, all by him self already.

I need to start training on his screaming, its blowing my brains out whenever im around him and quiet when im away or in a different room!

Is it a good age to start the screaming ignorance process?
What about training on tricks, plays and games?
He east half a meal of fruit pellets (snacking) during the day, should i try to get rid of this habbit now? or it doesn't hurt?

Sorry this is perhaps off topic but I was sure all parrots scream and thus make more noisy pets than other animals! Emotion: thinking I've never had one but I've heard many people say this. I thought that was their natural way to communicate.

There is no way you should be considering any sort of training at this age of an eclectus parrot! At three month old he is still a BABY. He's not even weaned! Moreover, eclectus parrots never scream for no reason. They can and will make loud noises when they’re upset. Our work is to find the reason and eliminate it, NOT to make the parrot silent no matter what just because we don't like the noise. Is he lonely? Does he have enough to eat and drink? Does he need attention? Does he scream when he's inside or outside the cage? Does he ever stop screaming when you're in the room? If he does, what are your foregoing actions? Please understand that he doesn't scream deliberately to blow your brain. He screams because he wants to tell you something and it's only you who can understand him.

Hi caimero.

I don't see any reason why you should prevent him from eating fruit pellets during the day. I actually think it's good and should help him get weaned. Let him eat as much as he wants. I venture to repeat that he screams because he's not weaned. In other words he screams for food. Baby birds always scream for food when they see their parent, and in Teddy's case the parent is you. Don't get mad at him. Wait till he's weaned and see if his behavior changes.

Hi,

i cant be made at him, im not that cruel. Just that ive seen 3 months old ekkies talking already, not only weaned.

What Akkra mentioned is right. But Leila, you're right if he's weaned. I dont know if you had baby parrots at home, they scream for no reason, ate or not, drank or not, happy or not. As Akkra said, when he sees parents he screams in nature : )

he only stop his SERIOUSE screaming 20~30mins after he eats.

Thanks guys! i believe i should wait a months

It depends on the subspecies and your parrot's individuality. For instance Solomon Islands Eclectus wean slightly before 3 months. Red-sided Eclectus normally wean at approx. 3 months. Vosmaeri is known to wean at approx. 4 months and with greater difficulty. I've also known ekkies that got weaned at 7 months. You can never tell when your parrot will get weaned but the general "rule" is to let them wean at their own pace without pressure from your side. That's extremely important to avoid problems in the future.
