Hi to all,
Does anybody know what the best guard dog breeds are? I know that German Shephers and Doberman Pinschers are quite good but I am wondering what else choice do we have? What are the most popular guard dog breeds?

hmmm i generally agree with raphael. i'd just add the kuvazs (i hope i spelled it correctly), rhodesian ridgebacks, staffordshire terriers, giant schnauzers,
puli and komondor. i've heard from my friends that they are really nice as guard dogs.

Mastiffs are amazing Emotion: smile my girl is 3 months old and is already guarding.

My german shepherd on the other hand is useless! Emotion: big smile

And never underestimate the power of a Jack Russell Emotion: wink

You German Shepherd is useless? How can that be? Emotion: smile I thought that it was in their blood to protect the owners. At least, all Shephers I have known were like that.

By the way, who is Jack Russell? Emotion: smile

Yes she is useless! I have to remember she's only 11 months old, still a pup but she does not bark and she does not get 'territorial' when other people come on to the property either.

In other ways she is the perfect dog. She is brilliant with people and ALL animals. I remember when we were on a walk a dog wanted to kill her and all she wanted to do was play Emotion: big smile

Jack Russells are small terrier dogs Emotion: smile
Oh! 11 months old! What do you excpect of a puppy?? Emotion: big smile Wait till she's at least... hmm, let's say 2 years? Maybe she has to be trained as well, and trained properly. Of course, if you are about to make her a guard dog, hehe. Emotion: wink

OMG this is so dangerous to walk with a dog sometimes...

I didn't know that breed name before, Jack Russells. Thanks! Emotion: smile

I won't train her to be aggressive or territorial...I think I will only be opening up a bad can of worms if I do this. She intimidating in looks alone plus my mastiff pup is showing signs of being a good guarder so I will leave her to it lol!

It was dangerous. Thank god the dog was behind a gate!!

Jack Russells are lovely dogs, can be very aggressive though!

A good decision! I don't like it either when owners train their dogs to be agressive. There's too much agression in our life to bring up more. Emotion: wink
It seems I've seen some dogs like that (Jack Russells) before. Cuties! hehe
