how do i get my cat to stop biting me?
How old is your cat? It's better to start training them not to bite at a young age. Don't let her/him play with your hands; when you are petting her and she starts to bite, just walk away and ignore her for a while. Punishments won't work. Also, try no to make sudden movements that can put her in an attack mode. Provide her with a lot of chewing toys and treats and remember, most important thing is to be really patient.
Neutering/spaying them usually makes them less agressive.
Good luck! Emotion: smile

She is 2 almost 3. She is neutered and never used to bite this much, but she is really playing it too rough when I play with her. also sometimes when we dont play she just bites.
Have you tried a spray bottle along with a firm NO whenever she starts biting? It's known to work really well.

don't play games that involve hand contact with you and don't try to touch the cat in the middle of a game.

Just don't play. If you go and play with her with your hands she's going to bite, just don't do it it's as simple as that. if she bites you walk away. get her chew toys and chase toys and fishing poll toys and see what she likes and let her play with that and not your hands.

hi

i have a male kitten who is three and a half months old and we also faced the biting issue.
firstly don't allow your cat to treat your hand like a toy.
distract him with other toys and sprinkle a little water on him with a firm NO.
this should reduce the biting but if it gets too much leave your cat alone in a room for sometime till he calms down.
neutering reduces the agression and biting in cats to large extent.
BEST OF LUCK !!!
You should never spray water on a cat in a situation like that, it will make him afraid of you. water should only be used in situations where the cat can't see you because he needs to be afraid of the object (making him afraid of the kitchen counter will make him stop climbing on it), you do not want your cat to be afraid of your hands that will make managing him very hard..

Also as far as I know neutering doesn't have to do with biting, kittens that age bite because 1. their teeth are coming out and just like a baby it hurts and they need to chew in order to ease the pain 2.because that is how they practice their hunting skills, they play rough with their brothers like they are hunting pray, and obviously since they no longer have a brother at that age (when in nature they probably would) the next best thing is our hands, that's why they need toys (and the best thing is a fishing toy so we can make it move like pray). Neutering does calm the cat a lot but will not make him less playful which means the biting will not stop.

do you mean a spray bottle is a pointless tool? it's been working miracles for me and for my friends too. i know there's an opinion it doesn't teach the cat anything but to behave ok when YOU aka the spray bottle is around but why has it been so effective in many cases? for example my cat used to scratch the couch and a spray bottle helped break this habit
