What kind of parakeet? An English budgie is a parakeet. If you're referring to a common budgie, yes they can live together. We have 2 English and 2 regular budgies and they all get along, sleep in the same cage some nights, play together, have free flight in the same room, and beyond a few squabbles once in awhile don't have any problems with each other.

Genetically they are the same bird if you are talking about the small pet store budgerigars. Just over the years they have been bred to be larger and more "regal" for show purposes. You can house them together and you can also breed them together.
