Hi all, I have a small (or big?) problem with my cats having a car ride. They are 3 years old, brothers, and the only time we had a car ride (a 4 hour trip to an exhibition) they were VERY stressed and meowed all the time. My husband was very anxious too asking all the time if they want to pee/poo and if he has to stop the car. I have to take him to an exhibition again soon and cannot imagine how I can make the trip less stressful. At the show itself they are totally fine and comfortable but the car drives them crazy. Please advise! I've tried a couple of sedatives but they don't seem to help. It just looks like a car phobia!
May be the cats like freedom.

maybe you should try to introduce them to the car when you don't have to ride anywhere?.. like letting them in so they can explore and sniff everything... to make sure it's not scary.... and maybe occasional short rides inbetween those long ones could help too

One thing you can do is leave their carriers open in the house all the time for them to go in and out. Then they will be more comfortable riding in them in the car.

You can also try Feliway Comfort Zone spray in the carriers. It has worked great for me!

Lastly you can give them a couple of drops of Rescue Remedy; an all natural stress-reliever.

Hi again, thanks for your suggestions. I'll try them next time because our trip is already over. It wasn't as bad as the previous time but still I'd love them to feel more comfortable in a car.
