Circus in your country?

Recently there was a circus here, and as usual there were people protesting, so I started to wonder what people in other countries do. I live in Australia, how is it in your country? Do people still "accept" the circus or are they finally speaking up and protesting?

I live in Uruguay and every time there's a circus coming (not very often, luckily) the protests are getting bigger and bigger!

I'm from Israel and as far as I recall the only circus that included animals in the past few years was the Moscow Cat Theater, People protested against it and it was a real big deal, shows like that are not welcomed in our country at all. I am personally against Circus's and Zoo's or whatever "entertaining" things that involve animals I don't find it amusing or fun.

Here in the U.S. the protests are also getting bigger and I sign petitions often. I hate the whole idea of it. I will admit I went for a ride on an elephant about 20 years ago. Frankly I felt bad about it. I stroked his ear and whispered to him that I thought he was magnificent and If I could set him free I would. He gently ran his trunk up and down my leg and turned to look at me with a look of acknowledgment. It was magical and I felt connected to him. He gave me a gentle ride and when I was getting down from him, I said thank you and told him I respected him. Again, I got a lovely look and he ran his trunk on my arm gently. It was something that changed me forever.

Wow alfinnlay that really must have been amazing!
Here in Malta there was a circus recently and people were out protesting too. It was the biggest protest ever.
The circus was apparently very small in size (the tent) and so the audience was very close to the animals. I was delighted to read from a friend that the lions sprayed the audience during performance and everyone in the front rows got wet! Way to go lions!
Thankfully they don't do circuses often here, I hope this stops all together.

Emotion: rofl good for those lions!!! Yes it was a magical and even spiritual experience. I've always had that way with animals no matter how big. I once went to a fair many years ago and ran my fingernails up and down and around an oxen's eyes and forehead. I put him to sleep right there!!! Everyone was stunned and the guy said I had "the touch". It's because these creatures trust me and can feel and see the love I have for them. It was really funny though. Emotion: giggle

Wow! I don't think a lot of people realize how smart animals are, elephants especially are extremely intelligent right up there with chimps dolphins and humans. I believe they understand everything and have deep feelings just like we do and I do believe that elephant knew your feelings.

I do too Joleen! I KNOW he did. His eyes spoke volumes! He was so huge but so gentle with me but I felt so horrible that I was riding him after I realized what a sick thing it was for him to be there just to give people rides at a zoo. I think he knew I felt bad and that it was my privilege to be among such a wonderful beast. He didn't belong there, trapped like that. I swear he knew my thoughts.
