3 days ago we got a 9 months old puppy. We also have 2 cats. I have 2 major problems: 1: The dog runs poorly on leash. He always pulls and tugs in different directions so that I'm constantly jolting at his leash to get him back on track. The worst, however, is that as soon as we cross the street, he goes completely haywire. He literally gets knotted up in the leash. And 2: In the apartment he's now begun to nibble all cat toys and today he has bitten me in the foot. I pulled it away in time so he didn't get me badly. What I can only do so he finally listens and also calms down?

We Have an 8-9 yr old Fixed Female dog.Honey is an indoor 75% of the time dog.She was in my sons bedroom & he walked into his room & stepped/hit her tail & fell next to her & she growled loudly at him..I was 5 ft away in the kitchen & yelled "hey!!" When i looked in the room she was looking at me & my son still next to her.He sais she was face to face with him when she growled..My question is at her age would it make her growl like this? He had no crule intent & she has never showed this kind of growling at anyone before.Im worried to have her in the house with my 2 younger kids now ages 8 & 10. Please help..any advice

So, our male Chi has been actively attacking the newest addition to the household, a lab/chow mix named Bear. I'm assuming it is because she is a MUCH bigger dog than he is. He was fine when we first brought her home...he wouldn't play with her or anything but he would mainly just ignore her. Our cat has also had trouble adjusting but now he has learned to avoid her. Bear has also learned to avoid the cat. The woman we got her from told me she enjoys playing with other dogs and she does try to initiate play with the two Chi's but they won't have none of it. The female will simply bare her teeth a little and pretty much cower until Bear leaves her alone but the male has seemingly gotten more aggressive towards not only Bear but towards the cat as well. Most of the fighting has occurred in the kitchen area though I've had to break up a few fights outside. Bear never starts the fights. I'm seriously considering re-homing one of them. I don't really want to but Bear is constantly being attacked by the male Chi and he is becoming more aggressive. He has yet to actually physically hurt her during one of these confrontations but during it, she will holler (whine) and he will not stop on his own. Someone will have to go break it up and he's come close to biting me a few times as I pulled him off her. He is not neuteured but would that cause him to attack her like? She's probably about 4-5 months old by now. She was 3 months old when we got her and we've had her about a month and a half.

My Wire Fox Terrier avoids eye contact with me, but does not avoid eye contact with my grown son. Why is this? The dog goes back and forth to each of our homes. We share Emma.

We just recently adopted a 1 year old Basenji mix. She is a fantastic dog when I am home with her, but the second I leave everything goes down hill. She loves being in her crate and she sleeps at night with the door locked just fine. (when we are there). However, the second I leave the house, she begins barking and does not stop until the second I get back. I've tried not entering until she stops barking...but I would be waiting out there forever. She NEVER stops barking. I live in an apartment...so it is crucial that this stops. The second I let her out of her crate when I come home, she goes crazy and runs around the house checking on everything and it takes her a while to calm down. I take her on long walks before I leave...so it's not because of lack of exercise. I just don't know what to do. I've thought about getting a bark collar...but at this point I really don't even know if that would work. - Natalie

I've never asked for help on here before Anyway. How do I teach my lab not to jump on counters and steal food? She's 3-years-old and rather stupid. She wasn't trained at all by her previous owners, and we think they used to feed her table scraps because she always eats like she's never had a meal before in her life. I can't get her to respond to any sort of training, even with treats. This morning, she pulled a pan of brownies off the counter and onto the floor. Just now, she jumped up and ate some of the cake we just made! She is absolutely crazy. She's eaten teabags, garlic cloves, peanuts, anything that she can find. Does anyone have any tips for training a (probably mentally challenged) dog to not only stop jumping on counters but also stop stealing food?

i adopted this 6 year old sweety from a rescue about a week ago. I was told that he was house trained which he is clearly not. I'll take him outside and he'll go pee, but as soon as we get back in he'll poop on the floor. I don't yell at him and i don't rub his nose in it. I've tried taking the poop outside to the "potty area" so he'll smell it and know that's where he's supposed to go. can anyone please help me? is here a certain time i should feed him so i can be here to take him out? He is also alone for about 5 hours of the day. Is that bad?
