This afternoon Lexi took her final step. She has gone over the rainbow bridge. The cancer in her leg and lungs no longer causes her pain. She is now able to run and play again with out hopping on one front paw. We are sad at her going ahead of us but are happy for the many wonderful memories she has given us. Don't cry for she is waiting for us to play with her again and is now happy and free. Lexi has been a wonderful part of our lives for 6 years. The last two and a half months have been very difficult for us all. Her leg had swollen and her ability to get around was reduced to hopping out to the yard and back to the couch. She was unable to visit her friends at the Humane Society or any of her hospital buddies from the last 4 years. We will miss her love and companionship her big butt sitting on us and her smile. We must keep our memories of her from all the fun we have had and the good times. love Danny & Lexi

I am very interested in buying a dog. I know that by having papers, the dog will have some history from where it comes from. Though, it will cost much more to pay for a dog with paperwork then with one without paperwork. I just want to make the best choice here, for me and my family. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a question about my 4 yr old male Chihuahua. I recently took him to the Vet for his annual shots. All was OK except the Vet said he had tartar build up on his teeth. He recommended doing a "Dental", where he would be sedated and his teeth are cleaned. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it safe? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Private emails welcome too. William

I think Greyhounds are fantastic dogs. Now that the tracks are closing, I may get one. There are plenty available. They supposedly do NOT need more exercise than any other dog. That's what I read at: [link]/ Any Greyhound owners out there?

I have a two year old male chihuhua. He's a typical five pounder with no health problems. What other people have noticed and I overlooked is the position his front legs are in when he stands or sits. When he stands or sits still (those few times he does) his front paws, rather than point straight forward, point outward at a "V" angle. Do other owners notice this with their dogs? Is this normal? He has no lack of energy and his legs don't bother him, I'm just curious if this is something to be concerned about or if its "just how they're built." Thanks for any feedback. BTW he's a black chihuahua with tan around his face and underbelly. His name is Radar due to the fact that his ears seemed disproportionately large when he was a puppy, and they resembled radar dish antennas. tolivercrash "The sun is just a minor star," Roger Waters

I have 3 Japanese Chins, they are all lovable and have their own personality. They are all house broken and they know how to let me know when they need to go outside. It takes a bit of patience and you need to learn how to read you Chin. A good start is to use pee-pads to get them used to going in a single spot if they have an accident. Much better than newspaper. There were many Boxers involved...the numbers are growing because 9 females were pregnant and litters are dropping daily. CKBR has been asked to be the leading Boxer Rescue effort on the bust. Needless to say the shelter(s) are overwhelmed and they need support but not a million phone calls. I went up with another officer of CKBR on Monday to help work and take some medical supplies. It was unbelievable. So far the count is 60-70 plus Boxers and many small breeds...The boxers will need (long term) foster care when the court gives the ok to release them. Since they are evidence in a case, they can not be adopted until the case is settled. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and microchipped before they enter foster care. They have to be able to track the dog and have access to them. We will be keeping detailed logs of where the dogs are, updated pictures and progress notes on their development. It will all be used at some point for the prosecution. If the owners surrender the dogs to the court they can be adopted at that time. Currently the individuals that were charged are not willing to surrender them and want all the dogs back. That is not likely to happen, as some of the dogs were stolen. There have been a few reunited with their families...but not as many as was hoped for...if anyone has word of Boxers missing in the IN, OH, KY, WV area over the last two or so years...please pass my information to them. I have pictures of the dogs that I can't release to the public...but I can go through to see if any look to be a match...if so...then we can get more information and try to make the match. The more dogs that are proven to be stolen...the better it is for all of the dogs. They are charged with many counts of animal cruelty which is a misdemeanor but what is going to cook them is the numerous counts of theft...each one is a felony. If anyone has any questions or would like to make donations to the boxer's care, please contact me directly. I would be glad to give you the information and help facilitate your efforts. Donations of food are NOT needed at this time. Iams and Wal-mart have stepped up and covered all the food. Donations of puppy replacement formula is greatly needed, these poor moms don't have enough milk to feed the litters that are dropping. Medical supplies such as : slide and slide cover for microscope, 3cc syringes, sterile water, latex gloves (powder free) mange treatment and antibiotics. Misc. such as: large garbage cans with lids, stainless steel food bowls that attaches to cages, newspapers, X-pens, cat food and litter, office supplies, heating pads, and an enclosed tractor trailer for storage. As we have more information we will give updates... Kelli D. Darland Central KY Boxer Rescue, Inc. Kelli (Email Removed) www.KentuckyBoxerRescue.org www.CKBR.org

hey all, my Mastiff is now 12 months old and, despite lots of socialising, gets scared a lot. a lot of the time she approaches strangers on her belly. if we're walking through a group she'll be jumpy and nervous. she's also afraid of noises at nighttime. is this behaviour that's likely to change as she gets older? we chose this breed as i wanted a dog that had the ability to act as a guard / protection dog, but she's more like scooby-doo than anything else at the mo. cheers.

Hi, I didn't realize this group was separate from rec.pets.dogs. I'm trying to find info about miniature wirehaired dachshunds. Personality, life span, grooming/care problems etc. Are there any rescue groups for them or failing that reputable breeders in California? I would love to hear your experiences with these cuties! Thanks for any info! Lisa
