Hello everyone, I want to get a dog and I am looking for the right breed. My and my girlfriend are living in a small appartment without a yard, that already exclude all the large/huge dogs. I have experience with dogs (had a german shepered, and I worked with her on advance training for work tests). Needs to be smart and trainable (for agility or work obidience). And very reliable (I might have kids someday ;-). I want a dog that will be o.k. when left alone during the work hours(0900-1700) and a 30 minutes walk would be enough for him during the week, but he will also be a good companion for a large weekend trip/activities. any advice would be more then welcome. thanks , Inon B.T.W, does anybody have any experiece with Cannan dog ?

What steps should I take to find the best breeder for my next Doberman? My first dobe, named Wes, died at 4 years of age due to cardio. I would like to lower my risk of having this happen again if at all possible. I'm not looking per say to have a show dog, but would like him to be sound, and good temper. Obedience and agility will be in his future agenda and mine. Are there breeders out there that have the parents and maybe even the grand parents checked for cardio prior to breeding? Does this lessen the risk of a pup having health issues? I'm in Michigan, but would consider out of state too. My searches with Google News Groups show some responses to this type of question, but I did not find anything of resent. Thanks, Eric D

Just recently my 2 year old Belgin has started relieving himself in the house. I think it's when he's mad at us for leaving him home. During the day he's home alone while everyone is at work/school. The problem happens in the evening when during the course of life we all have to leave for one reason or another. It's gotta be spite work because when we do leave him home alone, it's always after a long walk or letting him go in the yard. Any suggestions as to how I can stop this behavior short of taking him everywhere we go? Thanks Joe

I have a Chihuahua (5yrs old) who a few weeks ago started drinking much more water then normal. She also urinated plenty more. A few days later she started having severe seizures. Dr put her on Phenobarbital for seizures. We have been to 2 emergency clinics, neurologist, specialist and still no answers. Her limbs are weak. She weighs 31/2 lbs and drinks about 8 oz's of water daily. If anyone has any information that would help me, it would be greatly appriciated. Than you Gila

I have been research labradoodles and would really like to obtain a medium size dog that doesn't shed much through a shelter or rescue. Are all poodle mixes less likely to shed a lot? The cost of a labradoodle is obscene and I really would rather save a dog, but need a medium size, good with kids, low shedding type. Any suggestions?

My wife and I are preparing to breed our male Weimaraner. We will be doing this in two ways. First, we will be offering him through stud service and second, we will be acquiring a female within the next year. I ordered the 5 generation pedigree for each of his parents from the AKC. I just now noticed that the same male was used three generations back on his father's side and two generations back on his mother's side. I am wondering how big of a deal this is. Since Weimaraners are a somewhat rare breed, there is bound to be some inbreeding. I would like to know where professionals draw the line as to what is unacceptable, e.g. litters from the same litter-mates, litters between a parent and offspring, etc. Also, if inbreeding is such a big issue, why doesn't the AKC have standards and prerequisites for registration, e.g. "We don't offer registration for inbred dogs."

What are everyone's opinions on this breed, if any? I'm considering getting one in the future due to my other half's interest in the breed. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm hoping to get some ideas for a doggie fun days that the local collie club will be hosting in August. So far we will be playing musical chairs, egg/spoon relay race, dress the dog relay race, godzilla stomp(dog knocks over plastic soldiers), a small obstacle course, best trick contest and best costume contest. I'm considering the bobbing for hotdogs/biscuits.. but not sure if I want the mess. Any other ideas for games that people with very little training can play? I've been trying to look for kids games that I can adapt, but somehow, I just can't see the dogs dropping clothes pins into a bottle or passing a orange from chin to chin lol so, any games?
