RE: "Don't touch my bone" page 13This is a discussion thread · 336 replies Sandy in OK: [nq:2]Last time I bought a dog, I was searching a ... months. I had show people wanting to GIVE me dogs.[/nq][nq:1]Why would you avoid lines that are show lines?[/nq] Because I don't like the direction those dogs have taken? Especially since AKC recognition. I want an Aussie who looks and thinks like a working dog. I don't like the way the show lines look, and I don't like the brains on a lot of them. [nq:1]In fact, Tuck had 6 weeks of dog obedience training. We trained in tracking from the time he was 4 ... graduated from doggy obedience school.. We trained in tracking all the rest of the week, so PULLING was his experience.[/nq] Yes, I put CDs on two dogs with 6 weeks of training. 1 an Aussie, 1 an IWS (who did not even live with me. I did it on a bet. So, she got exactly 6 hours of actual training since I didn't practice between classes). They both Qed in three straight. However, both dogs were terribly lacking in a foundation understanding of what we were doing. And I think rushing them through was probably not great for them mentally. But then, I suspect Aussies may be softer than Elkies. Or maybe you are just a better trainer. BroomSandy

Janet B: [nq:1]Then I guess you were only reading the white Mini page? Nothing about the number of CHs? the #1,2,3 dogs in the breed for all times, the #1 sire? And of course, a lot of those dogs ARE available on the OFA site.[/nq]None of the 3 dogs listed on the mini page are in the OFA database, nor are any minis, and none of the whites have registered names listed on their page. Exactly where did you find "a lot of those dogs" available on the OFA site? Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com

Sandy in OK: [nq:1]My impression of you from your blessedly brief time here is that you're more interesting in saying words that you ... words from meaning, as you do here. Saying the right stuff is not the same as meaning the right stuff;[/nq]Well, if I was really interested in saying words I think "sound right" I'd probably be a hell of a lot better at group think on this board. The problem seems to be that I'm NOT saying what people want to hear. Oh well, that's life. BroomSandy

[nq:1]The problem seems to be that I'm NOT saying what people want to hear. Oh well, that's life.[/nq] It's not a matter of what people want to hear. It's a matter of you spewing *** and nonsense by turns. Shelly (Warning: see label for details) http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther)

Sandy in OK: [nq:1]A well bred working dog will fit into many pet homes.[/nq]A well bred working Aussie may fit into a dog-savvy pet home who trains their dog and gives the dog a job. The rest we see in rescue (if they are lucky)

Melinda Shore: [nq:1]What was it i was just saying about debunking ***? The guy inbreeding epileptic huskies has nothing to do with breeding white Schnauzers.[/nq]He has everything to do with saying things because the speaker thinks they're the right thing to say, regardless for real action or intentions. That's another thing you have in common with Jack - you're both overly concerned with having other people think you're smart. So concerned, in fact, that it leads you to say some incredibly dumb things. I would have thought that if you were actually interested in debunking something you'd take the time to read what it is that's actually been said, think it through, and respond to it. I still think that, come to think of it. It's that I don't think you're interested in "debunking." Sandy in OK: [nq:1]Don't you think there should be some reason to do so and a set of criteria to be aiming for? ... for a pet market. I don't know about you, but health, structural soundness, and temperament are very important to me.[/nq]Certainly Mini-Aussies have their share of less-than-careful breeders. So do many breeds including Australian Shepherds. Especially the smaller breeds suffer from being a good product for pet shops and millers. But Mini Aussies also have breeders who work their dogs, title their dogs, do health clearances and screen new owners carefully. Also do rescue. Just because what they want is not what I want, I see no reason to try to force my views on them. I can't speak to the other "mini" breeds. Most dog breeds came about by breeders selecting for specific traits that they liked.

Melinda Shore: [nq:1]The problem seems to be that I'm NOT saying what people want to hear.[/nq]True! I'd like to you say something that's actually responsive to the points that are being raised, and I'd like you to stop putting forth idiotic arguments about how since some people want to create new breeds it's okay for Skansen to do it, and that arguing with you gives ammo to PETA. If you'd get your brain in gear even a little bit I expect you'd have far fewer problems. Your argumentation is about as slovenly as I've seen since right before I killfiled Jack.
