[nq:2]Therefore, every puppy I produce (and I am hardly much ... docked. Show puppies will be cropped. That's just my policy.[/nq]
[nq:1]Makes perfect sense. I read that Doberman's can be shown with uncropped ears. Is that ever done??[/nq]
Yes. The first uncropped champion was Viva's gransire (dam side), who was a British import named Findjan's Outrage (Findjan being a big name in Brit Dobes). I know there are a couple of Can Ch uncropped dobes, but I haven't been following the show world the past few years I'm not sure if there are any more that have actually finished. There are a few, very few, who have been shown.
I love the look of a cropped ear, and I strongly support the right of people to choose to crop or not crop. However, I also don't agree with some Doberman breeders, who feel any attempt to allow any sort of normalcy to the uncropped ear is a threat to the breed. What I'd like to see is a description in the Standard discussing the uncropped ear. This ***: http://www.caradobe.com/poppy.html has what I consider an almost ideal uncropped ear high set, tight to the head, and fairly short. Some uncropped ears more resemble coonhound ears long, very floppy and, IMO, quite ugly on a dobe head.

I agree. Very nice looking dog. I looked at some of their other dogs and found I prefer the cropped ears on some, not so much on others. Not that what I prefer matters in the big scheme!

I like those ears. You could definitely play with them and they don't look ugly or anything. Do you have any links to pictures of ugly natural dobe ears?

[nq:1]I don't think that well bred purebreds take homes that would go to shelter dogs. I think that poorly bred purebreds take homes that would better go to well bred purebreds or shelter dogs.[/nq]
Bingo.
Although I'll add that IME, the "poorly bred" dogs are often perfectly good specimens of the breed...
[nq:1]And, yes, there are plenty of people who pay $500-$1000 for a dog that[/nq]
[nq:2]they then dump at the shelter.[/nq]
Yep.
As a semi-side note, not all of them are purebred, what the current fad for "designer dogs". I personally know somebody who paid $600 at Just Puppies for a pup who is 1/4 Boston Terrier, 1/4 Pug, and 1/2 some other small terrier breed which is slipping my memory at the moment. That particular dog didn't end up in the shelter, but I'm willing to bet some of his littermates did.
