Emergency Surgery for Bagheera

We learned this week that my son's cat, Bagheera is in desperate need of emergency surgery. His girlfriend walked in after school one afternoon and caught him eating a fabric softener.
His vet prescribed a laxative which was administered to no avail. He quickly lost his appetite and stopped eating altogether.

We brought him to our house where there would be someone to keep an eye on him during the day. We also took him to our vet. They prescribed a steroid and a soft food that my wife administers via syringe. This has gone on for a couple of weeks now and his condition has only wosened. He's lost a lot a weight and looks very emaciated and dehydrated.

My wife took him back to our vet yesterday. They did another X-ray and said that he has a bowel obstruction that requires surgery. The small intestine is visibly "knotted up". They said it would cost ~$1,000 - assuming the procedure went well.
My son's a full-time student with no income. We told him that we could contribute $400 but aren't currently in a position to do any more. He is desperately attached to his pet and I hate to see us lose him. Is anyone aware of any veterinary care financial assistance programs that might help?
Countless thanks.

If your son's vet will not arrange a payment plan to cover the surgery - which would surprise me - have him take a look at carecredit.com. They have no interest payment plans with pretty low monthly payments.

Probably worth a look at anyway. If your son cannot find a vet that will accept payments for the surgery. I hope your son's cat improves soon, and that it turns out to be less serious than they think.

Scott I am sorry I can't do more First and foremost talk to the vet and see if he will setup a payment plan for you like someone else posted If that doesn't work There are links above and the Arizona humane society should be able to point you to local resources on where to get help. My prayers are with your furballs

That would be my suggestion as well. You have to apply for it like a credit card and the hospital may even have the paperwork on-hand. If your son doesn't get approved (I know what's it's like when you're a student), you could always apply as well.
