Excessive ear wax?

My kitto develops lots of ear wax and this makes him scratch furiously, so fast and hard that I'm afraid he'll hurt himself! What can cause so much ear wax? What can I possibly do to ease his scratching? He's an outdoor kitto.

are you sure he doesn't have mites? They look like dirty wax. You can try applying a safe ear wax removal product like Animal Apawthecaries but if that doesn't help, take him to the vet and have it checked out. Excessive ear wax can be a sign of health issues, even allergies. Since he's outdoors, have you checked for fleas?

You can try olive oil but too much wax usually just a symptom of an underlying problem. Sure he's got no ear infections?
