![]() Eye opens with delay?1 replies Anonymous: So during the past week one of my hamster's eyes opens somewhat with a delay after he wakes up. It can take about 10 mins for his right eye to open fully. There's no mucus nor other gunk and it doesn't seem to bother him. But it bothers me kinda. Can it be something serious or nothing at all? Anything I should do? Since it doesn't seem to bother him I thought I'd just keep an eye on it but I decided to get some advice from other hamster owners anyway. You have to remember that rodents usually seem perfectly healthy and never show any weakness until they are nearly dying so it is extremely important to notice any change right away. How old is he and what breed is he? this could be something stuck in his eye maybe even from the bedding, I would try and take a little cotton ball soaked in warm water (not hot just a tiny bit warm) and clean his eye with it to try and get anything that is stuck in it. If he is developing some kind of eye infection it is also good to keep the eye clean so it doesn't get any worst so keep an eye on him, notice any other changes and try looking for an exotic animal vet and if nothing improves take him to the vet right away, again it is important to catch it as early as possible in order to be able to treat it, most cases they seem fine until they are near dead and it's too late to do anything for them. | Have a question?
