Five dead parakeets -- why?

About two months ago my son bought two parakeets from PetSmart, one yellow and one blue. The blue one suddenly died after about a week, he replaced it with another, which died after three days, and another which lasted 3 hours, then another which lasted about a week and a half, and then another which died tonight. That's five dead blue parakeets, in a new cage, plenty of food and water, excellent care. They are healthy one moment, then they are dead. The yellow one is still fine.
I checked the room for carbon monoxide. It can't be poison food in the room half of them died in the cage, some not having been out for days. I saw two go from weak to dead in my hands one in about an hour and one in minutes. One appeared to have neurological problems, streatching and arching before dying.
My son (9) takes excellent care of them with my supervision. Any thoughts???
Thanks.

I don't know the reason but for certain you shouldn't bring any more home until you find out.
Are you, your son, and the yellow parakeet the only occupants of the home?

Have you overheated any teflon cookware including before you got the birds.

What kind of heat and cooking do you have (gas/oil/electric)

What foods were they given.
Tap water or ?
What were the approximate high and low room temperatures?

Were the birds handled or just left together in the cage?

How big is the cage?
Was there someone nearby most of the time?
Did the yellow and blue birds seem friendly, ignore each other, or squabble.
Someting in the environment or a disease brought from petsmart are the only things which make sense to me. Were any of the birds checked by an avian vet before or after death? What makes you think your yellow bird is "just fine"?

Are you getting them from the same pet store? Are they refunding your money? What have they said about the deaths? When you have them out of the cage, are you handling them? Sounds extremely suspicous, considering one looked perfectly fine, then died 3 hours later. A necropsy might give you an idea of what's going on. I'd suspect the yellow one isn't fine if he's been in the same cage and location as the others.

Reminds me of what happened after I brought an Ionic Breeze air purifier into the house.

I'm guessing you haven't had a necropsy done on any of the birds.

Are you burning scented candles?

Are the birds being kept in the same cage with access to same food and water supplies?

Parakeet sitting quietly on floor of cage, then stretching and arching before dying.
Ozone got hardly a mention in the little instruction book, just a quick reference to the sweet smell after a thunderstorm.

Gee, i guess that's why they used birds in mines... i was always concerned about puting an ozone generator in my house.

sorry for your loss... and what may be countless others...

thanks for the info,
~steve
