Hi anony, I know what you must be going through. I had a phase where when I moved to a new country I didn't know anybody well enough so I had gotten a friend to take care of my cats whom I didn't really trust as well, but she has cats on her own so I thought she'd do an ok job. Well my cats were fine when I got back but still, the place smelled bad and there was the litter bag open with old food in it as well. Not to mention it was mid summer! Anyhow I was still glad she took care of them because I wouldn't put my cats into a kennel. They keep eachother company at home and just feel most comfortable there. They would go through much more distress if I had to bring them somewhere unfamiliar. But it depends on the cat and only you know what your cat can put up with and what not.
Have you tried asking a neighbour maybe? That would be a good idea since it's no hassle for them to come next door to check up on her. And a nice way to make more friends around your neighbourhood
Though it should definitely be someone who knows cats a little. Like you mentioned, what if the cat gets sick etc. I don't know where you are from but if they have really nice kennels in your area maybe you should go for that. Let us know how it goes!
