Hamster cage bar spacing?

I'm going to get a Syrian hamster and I need a cage for him. I was told to stick to the rule the bigger the better but I imagine this is not accurate for bar spacing. What bar spacing will be ok?

Don't get a cage with bare spacing over 1cm. That's what I know.

If the head can fit the whole body can fit. Try looking into cages that can have levels added to them. our chinchillas had two huge cages connected one on top of the other and had different levels, This is also good because hamsters are good climbers. so If you can't find something like that maybe get two of the biggest size you can get and connect them together.
