We have a cat (6 years) and a dog (American Staffordshire Terrier, a bitch, 3 years). The dog is very affectionate and kind, but when there is food in her bowl, the cat likes to sniff it. And if Bertha (the dog) sees it, she runs to the bowl and snarls at the cat. Once Bertha nearly attacked the cat. Can I somehow make the dog stop doing so? Thnks.

Of course your dog will do it - she protects her food! The best thing you can do is to feed the dog when the cat doesn't see it, and take the bowl away as soon as meal is over. No bowl, nothing to sniff.
