Why would someone wanting an Aussie choose one from someone who doesn't prove their dogs in any way, shape, or form? Do you understand inbreeding vs linebreeding? Tara: [nq:1]My dogs have been DNA and OFA tested. I do not breed Merle to Merle because of the possibility of blindness and deafness. I do notinbreed. I do not breed the same dog everytime it goes in heat. They arehealthy well cared for dogs.[/nq]And I generally give pretty good personal advice to my friends. But that isn't enough to qulaify me as a professional Therapist. And the DNA test was, as you said, only because you kept breeding your dog. That has nothing to do with looking for genetically inherited illnesses. And no relation whatsoever to screening for temperament issues. By the way, temperament issues tend to only become screen-able when a dog is well trained, seiously socialized, exposed exposed exposed to many different situations all the time..and highly trained. Anything less, and you really don't even have the basic info to know if there's even a potential problem there. My last dog was a gorgeous GSD from intense working lines. He was gorgeous (as his mother was a multi titled champoin from show lines). But his temperament was seriously flawed. To the point of discomfort for him. He was totally comfortable when we were on the farm visiting every summer. In fact, he was terrific there. I could take his training there to levels I could never hope to in other places. He was comfortable with the level of stimulation there, and was therefore presenting no issues. If that was the extent of my experience, I might have decided that this was the coolest dog evah (Oh wait..I loved him and already KNEW that!) and should be bred. Actually, many people who didn't know all that much about Shepherd begged me to breed him and give them a pup. But I knoew better. You see, I don't live on that farm. I live in a major city where we deal with hundreds of dogs/trucks/buses/strangers/children/construction sites etc every day. Under those sorts of conditions, he shut down. His temeprament was less than stellar under real world situations like that. And guess what! That is an inherited condition! That, my friend, is the whole point of trials and competitions. They show not only how much of a commitment you're willing to make to creating the best dog you can with the one you already have (and thus, how much of a commitment you're willing to make to the pups you have yet to create), but a means of actually getting to see and to know the strengths and weaknesses of the particular dog you are setting out to breed. Not to mention how valuable it is to actually get a neutral, third party opinion (i.e. the judges involved in whatever trialling area you've selected as your barometer). You see, even people who have worked in a breed for DECADES (wether it be conformation, or working trials) go out and get other opinions on their dogs before making that final decision. Why? because when you're so close to something, you tend to loose context for what you're seeing. In fact, the only people I've ever heard say that they know enough about the breed standard to tell their dog is fine for breeding without another expert opinion is..wait for it..the average Backyard Breeder who reads the standard, thinks they understand it and then applies it (wrongly) to their own dogs. Anonymous: Renee,Do not take anything these egotistical PETA pushers say. They seem to get off on thinking they are 'top breed' themselves and know everything. What happened is not your fault, it happens. The only thing you could have done different is have the dog DNA tested when you purchased it. This is costly, and 'most' would not do this. The breeder you bought from is the irresponsible one, not yourself. The people above want to think of you as a puppy mill, which you tend to say they are your pets that you raise pups from time to time. The posters probably dress their pets up in bright colored clothes and treat them like the friends they do not have in 'real' life. Aussies are bred in my area for working dogs. Most are bought for that purpose and the breeder is taken for their word. So, do what you can to get it cleared up and don't pay any attention to the attention whores who have posted!!

shelly: [nq:1]Do not take anything these egotistical PETA pushers say.[/nq]PeTA pusher? Hardly. [nq:1]They seem to get off on thinking they are 'top breed' themselves and know everything.[/nq] Top breed(er)? I know just enough to know that I have no business breeding dogs. [nq:1]The breeder you bought from is the irresponsible one, not yourself.[/nq] She's irresponsible, for sure, but not necessarily because she got conned by her dog's breeder. [nq:1]The posters probably dress their pets up in bright colored clothes[/nq] Well, no, not exactly. http://cat-sidh.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-865 Shelly (Warning: see label for details) http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther)

Anonymous: My point has been confirmed by her post!!Kennel clubs set the 3 litter limit before DNA testing for a reason. I guess all registration Kennel clubs are irresponsible if you listen to these attention whores. U got duped, so everyone wants to call you irresponsible. You are now smarter by what has happened in two ways. First, take greater care in confirming your bloodline. Second, ignore post from lonely home bodies who get off on making of point of not helping, but only bashing to boost their self esteem

shelly: [nq:1]There is so much wrong with your post, but I will focus on the above. This person said it was her business. [/nq]And the lack of registration papers will not only cut into her bottom line, but may come back to haunt her in the form of having to reimburse buyers for at least part of the dogs' purchase prices. Or, worse, want to return their now useless dogs to her. On the bright side, maybe she'll find breeding to be so unprofitable that she'll knock it the hell off.
