 Kitten or a Stray?12 replies 1 2 I am thinking about getting a cat but I can decide whether to get a kitten or to adopt one from the SPCA. This will be my first cat. I have only previously had fish but wanted a different pet. So any advise appreciated thanks Nisha  Junior Participant11 Hi Nisha, That's painfully difficult to decide on matters like this always. I'd say follow your heart. If SPCA shelters don't euthanize animals in your area I'd rescue a stray kitten. But stray kittens don't come by one usually so you'll have to make a difficult choice again. Also they may be more work health-wise.  Regular Participant116 Yeah it seems like a complex decision. I really wanna be a good owner and have to weigh up all the options I would see if you find a kitten from the SPCA first, they need you! Defo don't get one from a pet shop!  Junior Participant32 Yeah, I'm confused because there are usually lots of kittens t shelters. Especially in this economy, people are just dumping cats and their babies left and right. Which makes me so angry but that's another story. I'd really try and look at the rescue league or shelter first. I am going to visit the SPCA next weekend...what all do I need to prepare for a cat? Bowl and collar? litter tray? Anything else? thanks Nisha FOOD!!! LOL. try to start your new little one off right. The minute that Finney and Lacey stepped into my house, even as kittens, they were put immediately on grain free food. Nature's Variety, Evo, Weruva, etc. Good quality foods.   LOL what kind of food? And drink just water? I thought kittens needed milk? I went into the supermarket and was totally baffled by all the choices for food...help!!!! Show more
