Have you noticed that many tabby cats have M looking stripes on the forehead? Even those cats in which the tabby pattern is not very prominent. I wonder if it's meant to stand for "Meow". =D
As far as I know the M mark is one of the things that always comes with the tabby cat including the stripes and patterns, almost all of them have it, it will either be a complete M or the M will be broken into two parts or a V with two dots or it can be an M that looks blurred or three vertical lines but there is always some indication for the M..
I can't say Barsik is a tabby kitty but he has kind of an M too on his forehead.
other breeds can be tabby's as well.. since the tabby isn't exactly a breed, it's more like a definition of how the cat looks I guess (?). when a sphynx has hair on his face and it's striped its called a tabby sphynx and that goes to most breeds that don't have a specific color standard (Havana, Siamese, korat) and could come in different patterns (Maine coon, Bobtail, Persian, Siberian etc) .. hope that makes sense XD
A tabby Sphynx? How interesting, I've never heard of them! I usually imagine Sphynx cats like solid coloured cats or bi coloured cats. Now I'm curious and will look for some pics of tabby Sphynxes! xD
Barsik isn't a breed, he's just a rescued kitty. Not tabby as you'd expect it but he does have some dim stripes on his belly and sides. So I guess he does have some tabby genes which contribute to his M mark.
By the way, I loved your interpretation of the M sign, Maestro! lol
The M doesn't really reflect what breed he could be, he could be pure bred and have it or he could be a mix of many things and still have it, I think it's cool anyways
My Hidrógeno (a seal point siamese) has an M in his forehead too, and it reminds me of Matilde (who was the one that gave him to me).
my kitty myla has an m too. her eyebrows grow from the base of the m mark.
