My cat's sudden attack!?

Hi all,

This morning I was sitting on a couch with my legs crossed and a slipper hanging on the foot. I sat like that I don't know for about 15 mins maybe and then all of a sudden I felt a furry clawy ball attacking my foot. That was my cat. I got a few scratches with little bleeding. Nothing serious but now I'm sorta afraid of my own cat!! He's 6 moths old, we never played rough games and he's an utterly sweet creature overall, very loving and great. What could have caused this attack? Did he think the slipper hanging on my foot was a toy? That's really freaky to walk in your house and be afraid for your feet safety. Emotion: sad

oh my goodness. I'm really kind of stunned at how many people I see afraid of how kitties play. It's okay, I promise! He's just a baby and he's playing. I know you don't play rough games with him (which is good btw, keep it that way), but when you do play, what do you use? Do you have anything like a string toy for him to chase, do you have any cat furniture for him to play on, maybe he needs a buddy to beat up on. This will change, he's a predator and he sees your foot as a furry little mousy. He should have something for a toy where he can feel like he's using his predatory skills. Please don't be afraid, he feels comfortable enough with you to show you his little crazy play side. Emotion: smile

LOL Yes he must have thought it was pray and naturally attacked it obviosly in a playful way. Don't be afraid, keep the nails trimmed so next time it happens, and it will!! , it won't hurt so much.

I throw a paper ball at him and he chases it, then we have string yes and some other cat toys. He's got a cat tree too.
Thanks for your replies. I feel better now and he hasn't attempted to attack my feet again. Emotion: smile
You know why don't you drag a thick string around and let him chase that. Just make sure to not leave it out so he swallows it. But mine love that. I even tie a feather or garbage tie to end of it. Lacey goes nuts. But as I said, I never leave it out when I'm not supervising. I also use paper bags and boxes, oh they love those!! Cheap and fun! You can't ask for better than that. Emotion: yes

All cats will get playful like that. he is only 6 months old he is still a baby, you will find lots of things that he will do that he never did before. you can get all kinds of ball toys or just a box of some sorts. or a laser light toy you can sit an point for him to chase.

hope that helps
