me:
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio."

Having grown up all over the world and this country and settling down in the mid-Atlantic, I have always believed I had a neutral (or no) accent.

Some of you people talk funny.

[nq:1]I've never pronounced my name like that though. Mine is unlike the tax, but like the sticky substance :-)[/nq]
I've heard Tara with both pronunciations. I've been saying yours incorrectly in my mind, darnit. Now I have to adapt. The smiling *** Tara's name was pronounced the other way. Emotion: smile
[nq:1]And to add yet another pov, I've never heard any version of Sara(h) that rhymed with my name.[/nq]
Neither have I.

great link, that was fun.
here's what they say..(and I live about 1.5 hours from Philly)

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia
Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

Huh. I'm Inland North. But, in spite of what it says, I have never called soft drinks "pop".And no one has ever mistaken me for a Wisconsiner. I've been told by linguists that I do have the classic Binghamton accent. I forget what that means exactly but it's probably true.

I went on and took some of the state quizzes also.

I'm halfway to being Minnesotan, halfway to New Hampshire, 94% New York Stater (what a surprise - and yes, I do know about both spiedies and Dinosaur BBBQ) but it appears that I also qualify as a Pennsylvanian.

I'd say that makes it pretty accurate.

I pronounce those the same. Both rhyme with air.

[nq:1]They would have pronounced uit Cer-ah? That's really weird. A few people insist on pronouncing my name Terra, but they've ... under the age of 5 (seems like a lot of kids naturally pronounce my name that way until taught otherwise)[/nq]
In my world, Tara rhymes with Sara and Sarah. TAY-rah, rhyming with LAY would be very odd. Never heard of it being with a long A.

Interesting. First it tells me that I'm from "The Inland North" but then it says, "but when you step away from the Great Lakes..." and I don't understand that division. I'm from Cleveland, on the shore of a Great Lake and is most assuredly not "inland."
I am, however, 100% Ohioan.

Footnote: I think this little quiz is biased towards NE Ohio, not that it matters...
