RE: Prayers needed, possible mast cell tumor page 3This is a discussion thread · 27 replies Anonymous: [nq:1]It's a mast cell tumor... [nq:1]She goes in today for initial bloodwork to see (I guess) if there are cancer cells in her blood. Luckily ... as soon as his office opens this morning. Hope and pray that it hasn't spread. Any doggie cancer survivors here?[/nq] This particular one is entirely possible to actually cure, not just survive if it is still local enough to be entirely removed. I know a handful of dogs personally that have done so. Diane Blackman http://dog-play.com / http://dog-play.com/shop2.html

[nq:1]Any doggie cancer survivors here?[/nq] Sam had a histo-something removed a few years ago, but I don't recall whether it was a cytoma (bad, but not Very Bad) or a sarcoma (Very Bad). So far, so good. Good healing thoughts to Kali, and a cyber hug for yourself. Mary H. and the Ames National Zoo: Regis, Sam-I-Am, Noah (1992-2001), Ranger, Duke, felines, and finches

Anonymous: [nq:1]Kali recently developed an odd shaped lump on her rib cage near the spine. I took her to the vet ... it's a mast cell tumor...or an infected bug bite. I should get results from the pathology lab in 4-5 days.[/nq]I'm sorry it was not an infected bug bite. Your post got me off my duff and I took Tsuki in to have his own lump looked at. I'd been procrastinating. Tentative diagnosis is histiocytoma which can be bad but often resolves on its own. If it does not then we have to do more follow-up and consider more serious diagnosis. For now its going to be watch and wait for two to four weeks. Hopefully it will just go away. Diane Blackman http://dog-play.com/ethics.html http://dog-play.com/shops.html

Any doggie cancer survivors here?[/nq]YES! Tracy had a fairly large stage 2 mast cell sarcoma on his back, which was surgically removed. We didn't think too much of his chances past six months. That was early Aug, 2002. His arthritis isn't very good and he's in some pain from that, but he hasn't had any more sarcoma. More fatty tumors, yes. We get those needle biopsied. I have a friend with a Cocker Spaniel who had a very difficult sarcoma on her mouth. She had radiation. That was last year. Neither of us had much hope for a great recovery & our vets weren't particularly encouraging, but both are dogs are alive and well. We gave Tracy benadryl & tagamet as part of his treatment for quite some time. Don't give up hope!

Any doggie cancer survivors here?[/nq]Mojo is, but of a different kind than your Kali. So that's virtually no help at all. All I can do is say I'm sorry, but that we're rooting for you and hoping they get it all out and that it hasn't spread. I think Kali is going to be fine, but the waiting seems to be the hardest part, doesn't it? Terri
