Puppy attacking my young daughters !

We recently ...three weeks ago approx aquired what seemed at first impressions a docile Welsh springer spaniel puppy.(now almost 4 months old) In time its become agressive to our two young daughters. 6 and 8yrs old.
The dog has a habit of biting ...teething biting and is trained to stop when I say NO BITING and at the same time holding its mouth shut.( Which I have also trained my daughters to also do...but they have the difficulty of doing it confidently and with accuracy and speed)

My youngest was nipped seriously a week ago and I thought the dog was simply getting carried away with playing with the girls.

I told the dog off NO BITING and held its mouth shut as well as getting the girls to do that at the same time. I also had it lay on its back while repeating the same action. In its submissive position.

We had no problems for a week untill yesterday when it attacked our 8yr old while she was passively sitting on the stairs . The dog bit her face, arms and leg. The girls also knew to stay calm and say NO BITING ...this was to no avail. My daughter later cried. I put the dog straight into its crate and said NO BITING BAD DOG. I left it there for 10 minutes.
I am thinking its a pecking order issue. The dog could be trying to put our daughters into order.
I have been getting the girls to feed the dog...even putting their hands through the food so to leave their scent on the food.

We regularly walk the puppy ..good walk in the park in the morning, during the day to go to the toilet and either a walk in the park at night or in the back yard play time. ( I also walk it to work with me and home 5 minute walk to work) It stays in its crate at work.

At night we do training with the puppy ...fetch ..give..sit ...stay ..heel..etc
So the dog gets plenty of excercise and interaction with the girls.

Any suggestions for what other action we can take to prevent and also discipline the puppy.? I am short on new ideas.
I have had dogs before but not when I had children.

Looking forward to your replies.

I'd highly suggest puppy training class... for the whole family of course... its lots of fun...
yelping when the dog bites will work when you play in a controlled manner... the puppy wants to play, but it doesn't want to hurt...

and I'd use OUCH really loudly rather than no biting... if the dog were to nip at another child or person their first response would be ouch, rather than no biting...
you might also have to hold the dog down in a controlled manner, on its back or side until it gives in and totally accepts it... you do it, and while in control of the situation get your daughters to do it as well...

if you can follow that link its puppy training for kids by sarah whitehead... I'd highly recommend it for dog owners even if they didn't have kids...
my muminlaw has a springer spaniel.. and they are bright energetic dogs... if the dog wants to nip or bite, you can also try to give the dog a bone instead...
and train it to accept all forms of petting and such... gentle tugging at the ears, legs, muzzle etc... but you'll get that from the book...

even now with my 5 yr old lab, she will never bite, however she wants to mouth something still... carryover from puppyhood, so she loves just chewing on a ball while I"m playing or petting with her...

now if anyone can help me with preventing my bunny from biting me.. sigh...

So, what you are saying is no one fears you? Well, that would be correct, since "PARTENTS" isn't a word. People DO hate you, however, so I'll give you that. But "FEAR?" ROFLMAO!
Do you FEAR meeting ME?!? OF COURSE! Coward.
Did you have ANY schooling at ALL? Or did you sit by the TV "nekkid" as a kid too and skip school?
Or, was your worm-infested DADDY as crazy as you and teach you to insert "HOWE" into every word possible to make you look like an imbecile? Or, did you learn to be an imbecile on your own?

By the way, there is someone who posts on this site under the name of jerry howe... please do not listen to this individual and if possible block him... I've recently come back to this newsgroup only to find him flinging the same advice as five years ago when I first was here... not good... copy paste kind of stuff and not really with reality too much... I have him blocked and only know he posts because of others responses to him. Many have had him blocked, but it may help with weeding out good advice from nonadvice...

this has been a community notice update, we now return you to your regularily scheduled programming* *G

Oh, she's even more insulted by you comparing her to them! Roxy thinks butts smell good. Especially when I least expect it and she gets a good reaction.
