So I'm halfway-housing this adult male veiled cham. He's pretty damn aggressive. He can't/won't eat on his own. He has terrible eye-tongue coordination. He's relatively well hydrated, but if I don't mist him twice before noon his eyes get all sunken in. He moves around his cage, basks, and hides in the plants.
Today while going through our feeding regimen (wave hand in front of his face, when he hisses and lunges I insert bug or salad into his mouth, he chomps, repeat) I noticed his mouth interior is changing.

Two weeks ago at the vet his mouth was all evenly pink, including his tongue shaft. We did not do a CBC, but we did complete a fecal and a round of antiparasitics to treat those he was diagnosed with. My vet had lots of speculation as to his poor eye-tongue coordination, but no solid diagnosis.
Today I noticed little black lines inside his mouth, it appears the teensy veins themselves are turning black. Septicemia? His tongue shaft is quite purpley.
After lunch today he threw up everything he'd swallowed.

I couldn't get a vet appointment until early next week. Any comments/speculation? If I have anything resembling a medical term this COULD be I can research further in my texts.
TIA

I found the chameleon had died this morning. Free necropsy service from my vet as he was seen and undiagnosed. Hopefully it will show something that he and I can both learn from.

That's too bad. I know you did not have him for very long, but still, my condolences.

Thank you, Luke. I suppose it comes with the territory being a rescuer, that they just won't all make it. Doesn't make it any less sad when they go.
That said, the necropsy offered me some releif. He had a 3" long tumor (his SVL was about 6"), a dark and mottled liver, and necrotic tissue starting at the base of his tongue and extending all down his throat. There was nothing I could have done for him.

Yuck, the poor thing. No wonder he was hissing and lunging, he must have been in pain especially with that necrotic tissue

Thanks Pete. I thought of you doing a little mini-outreach yesterday morning. I took a couple of my small snakes down to the children's library where my friend reads stories to little ones.

Of of my snakes opened up his vent. I said, ala Pete, "LOOK, HE'S POOPING!!" to which the kids all went "OHH!!" and ran over for a better view. Always a big hit.
