I'm still trying to picture using them for a Yorkie. Or even a Pap.[/nq] The smaller the dog, the cooler it'd be, but only those who knew the context would chuckle. Not many in my circle know the words, so I'm going for the long term chuckle. Seriously, they're good words, easy to say and work well with others. Gee Tunnel and Haw Walk are easy to say. (Aside, I was judging tonight and again saw many handlers using multiple cues which don't work well together, like "come weave".) [nq:1]They almost make sense for the Great Dane that a friend runs. So much that it actually would be cool in itself![/nq] I love watching the big ones run! [nq:1]And, of course, it makes no matter what words you use. I considered Port and Starboard - but while Port works okay, Starboard is a little long to get out in time.[/nq] Usually, the best words are none. Friday and I have fantastic and often silent jumpers rounds, but distance is killing us because I've concentrated on body signals. Rocky has great verbal discrimination and excels in Gamblers. Matt. Judy: [nq:1]Usually, the best words are none. Friday and I have fantastic and often silent jumpers rounds, but distance is killing us because I've concentrated on body signals. Rocky has great verbal discrimination and excels in Gamblers.[/nq]We've done a couple of things lately in class that were kind of interesting in what they taught me. We sometimes do a run without speaking. For those people who use a LOT of words (and some people just never shut up!), it's often a real eye opener. For anyone, it's a realization of how much more body language counts to the dog than verbal commands. (Motion first, body language second, verbal third.) And a couple of weeks ago we did a timed run. The first run through was just a nice little course. Everyone did it well. The second time through, the instructor added a stopwatch. It was amazing how many people had problems doing the same course. It also was really interesting to compare times between big and little dogs and how they broke down on different sections of the course. We're doing a little more distance work and layering now that AKC has added their FAST class. It's not a skill that is necessary for the basic classes but it does come in handy sometimes. There've been a lot of mixed comments about the distance class because so many people don't want to learn the skill if they don't have to for their MACH. I think it's not only fun (Half the fun of agility is the new skills to learn) but it's not a bad skill to add to the toolbox. So, do you think Maybe will be the best of both Friday and Rocky? She's almost certainly got a better, more skilled trainer than either of them had. Judy

Sometimes we put a toonie each into the pot on the weekend's final jumpers round. Fastest clean run takes the money. It's often only 30 bucks (not everyone puts in), but I've never seen better runs. Handlers forget about getting a safe Q and just goferit. Ironically, we're much more relaxed when running for the money. (Aside: at the AAC Nationals a couple of weekends ago, there was a Steeplechase challenge of three rounds. Everydog could enter the first round. Only the top half of each division would make the second round. The top quarter of those made it to the finals - the money round. I've never seen so many fantastic runs or fabulous flops, ever! It was go-for-it-or-go-home. There were 95 dogs in Friday's class; he made the first cut, but missed the second by a spin. Literally, a spin before a tunnel put us 14th where the cut was 12. Maybe's aunt, Encore, won the class and took home just over $1000.) [nq:1]So, do you think Maybe will be the best of both Friday and Rocky?[/nq] Nice segue! That question is like me asking which is your favourite daughter. Oh, wait... [nq:1]She's almost certainly got a better, more skilled trainer than either of them had.[/nq] I know more; proper application will be wait'n'see. There are some who credit Friday only with the middling success we've had. "Just wait until you get a dog which isn't a natural." Matt. Rocky's a Dog.

Fastest clean run takes the money.[/nq]There is one trial that we do that has something similar - you form teams of four. A clean run in your standard course on Saturday - doesn't matter what level you are entered in - gets you 100 points. Ties are decided by total seconds under course time. It's fun but there's no money involved. Probably that would make it very different. I'm thinking it would make it more competitive. [nq:1]Handlers forget about getting a safe Q and just goferit.[/nq] DH says that there is no such thing as a safe run when you're running with Sassy. [nq:2]So, do you think Maybe will be the best of both Friday and Rocky?[/nq] [nq:1]Nice segue![/nq] And you didn't even comment on the incredibly poor structure and grammar of that sentence! [nq:1]That question is like me asking which is your favourite daughter. Oh, wait...[/nq] Today that would be easy. It's my birthday and she called. That's all she had to do and she did manage to remember to do it! Yay!! [nq:1]I know more; proper application will be wait'n'see. "Just wait until you get a dog which isn't a natural."[/nq] With Maybe's genetics, I think you'll have to wait a little longer for that dog that isn't a natural. Judy
