i notice a few 'duplicate' questions from another group but thought i would post in this one also.
ARe water chestnuts toxic to dogs? i fed my friends elderly boston terrier a few last night and today she had a stroke and or seizure. She is still alive and hopefully will get better but for my own peace of mind i would like to know if i contributed to her getting ill by feeding her the water chestnuts.
thank you for your help,
jen

Hi Im WEEniE with My:
Why did you give your friend's dog water chestnuts? Why would you or anyone for that matter give any animal any kind of chestnuts beside squirrels & members of their family. How's your friend taking it. I don't know I think if it was my dog I'd be *** off but I don't know what happened. Hope everything goes ok

From this, I wouldn't think that water chestnuts are toxic, just that there are parasites attached to them which can give the ingestor worms. Really nice to know, thanks. :~( I've always loved water chestnuts, but I'm not sure I do anymore.

First of all, water chestnuts aren't real nuts. All she did was give the dog leftovers. Not a big deal. From what I read from your previous post, water chestnuts contain worm parasites..that's it. They're even harmful to humans, but nothing said if they were harmful cooked or only raw. I would assume raw.
Haven't you ever given a dog leftovers?

Okay, it's official, I called and asked my dog's vet. They said NO. Not toxic.
There.

If you mean sharing a sandwich with our dogs. Yes. Found out that one of our dogs vomits after eating pork.Don't matter how it's cooked. There's lots of times we couldn't finish what was in our plate & divided what was let into 3
