Why?

I was taking my usual morning walk. I saw a cute dog and I wanted to take a photo.
The owner, the lady with the dog: " Are you taking pictures? "
Me: " Yes, Madam, but of the dog ".
Her: Oh, no, please, don't take pictures of my dog! Have you already taken pictures of it?
Me: yes, one.
Her: Please, delete it!
She comes towards me and wants to see the picture. I showed her my cell phone and I deleted the picture I had already taken of her dog.
I was listening to music. I raised the volume in order to not hear anymore what she is saying and went away. I was disappointed Emotion: sad
Maybe she was right, the dog is hers and if she doesn't want someone takes pictures of her or her dog, it's okay, obviously. I shouldn't. I took soo many pictures of so many dogs. I just adore taking pictures of dogs. I adore dogs! That lady is the first person who told me not to take a picture of her dog.
I saw other dogs after that but I didn't dare to take a pic anymore. It is 'ugly'.

To tell you the truth I'd feel uncomfortable if someone was taking photos of my dog, Sherlok, without letting me know and asking for my permission. Who knows what he'll use the photos for after this! Maybe they're spying on my dog! OK, maybe I've watched too much of James Bond movies but we live in a world of different people so there's no harm in being wary. If I'm asked nicely and the person doesn't look suspicious, I'll always let him take some photos. Emotion: dog Take it easy!

Hi,

Okay, as I already said, the person decides if someone may take a pic of their dog or not. Right! I ask you for permission to take a pic of your dog. I can use the pic as I want even if I ask for your permission even if not. You cannot even notice me taking pictures of your dog. Is not that the point here.
The question is: for what purpose am I going to use the pic? Emotion: surprise I watch them because I like watching pictures of dogs because I like dogs or share them with other dog lovers. What else can i do? I watch Fox Crime everyday, but I'd like you to tell me too what a person can do with a pic of a dog who doesn't know. There might be in the world at least one other million of dogs like that one. It is not a baby. We are talking about a dog.
Take care!

Cheerio!
To her, the dog is maybe her child, so it's about respect really. Also, people might use photos for publishing, printing... you'll never know what she was thinking so I think you should just respect that and not judge.
This would be really the first time in my life judging someone's behaviour! On the contrary. I simply hate this! That's not me, I'm not doing this because I'm not able to do it. I was just wondering what was in her mind. I tried to understand. I don't know what it is about. That's why I started with an "Why?" not with an: " I believe that..."
I wouldn't have tried to understand. There's nothing to understand.
One thing is clear though: maybe it won't be anymore a pleasure taking pictures of dogs, but I'm sure that on mysmelly I can see many cute dogs or other animals Emotion: smile.
Sorry but that is really rude. It's her dog and she is minding her own business I myself would not appreciate if anyone would randomly take pictures of my pets without asking It's very rude to do such a thing. Maybe most people wont actually tell you this or start a fight in the middle of the street but I am very sure people are uncomfortable with you doing that.. You should ask for permission no matter what the reason is, it's invading someone's privacy.

BTW you will find a lot of people will give you permission to take pictures of their pets if you just walk up to them and ask and not just randomly take pictures.

Also as a photographer you should offer them a copy of the photo of their pet as a courtesy for taking their pet's photo. It really works quite well. Just email them the image.
