From what I've learnt about animals, they have feelings too and they do suffer sometimes. But can cats commit suicide just like we humans can do?? For example, when one of the owners passed away and the cat misses him too much... do you have any stories & opinions about it please?

Has anyone opened a bag of Swheat Scoop lately and found it exceptionally powdery/dusty? I have, didn't think anything about it, used it, and wound up with a $700+ vet bill for two dehydrated cats who were probably ingesting this powder while grooming, which I later realized actually stuck to my hand in a film. I took some to Petco and they agreed it was abnormal. I phoned Swheat customer service on Thursday, May 27, 2010, and they said they had just changed out a screen in their plant 3 days earlier, which had a bigger hole than they realized until they changed it. Cats have different litter now, and are putting weight back on. Can't prove it's related to Swheat, but blood tests showed no cause. I wrote Swheat to consider a recall, and wonder if I shouldn't be cautioning folks - if so, how? Maybe somebody more computer literate than I can pass this along? I have saved the last Swheat bag, and sent a baggie of it to Swheat. Page Williams, Houston TX Email Removed"> Email Removed ...

Not sure how to find the words to express how traumatic my experience was yesterday in having my dearest friend Shadow being put to sleep. I have had him for 17 years and we have battle his heart disease problem for some time. He had his chest drained twice and the last time it only lasted just 3 weeks so i made the extremely painful decision to put my dearest friend to sleep. I made the call to the vet who came up and examined him, and agreed that it was the right time, as he was laboured with his breathing once again. I wanted him to be put to sleep at home in the quiet and familiar sound and smell of home. I was expecting an injection in to his vein, as i had had another cat put to sleep this way over 20 years ago, which was very peaceful. The vet said that they now do cats direct in to the kidney as it is quick and painless, so i agreed. I have never been able to stop my tears, since, as the vet felt for the correct place which was so upsetting in itself, once found he injected Shadow in to his kidney, and it will haunt me forever. He screamed for over 20 seconds struggling to get away, even trying to bite me as i had to hold him still to enable the injection. In 17 years he had been a gentle giant, and at that moment his eyes were filled with fear. It will stay with me the rest of my life. I have spent the whole day looking in to this, as i cant get over it. I dont understand why he was not sedated first, everything i tried to avoid happened, a thousand times worse than i can ever image.I feel devastated that his ending was filled with so much pain and fear, it make me feel so let down by the vets, and feel i let him down in his last moments. I wanted to be with him so he wasnt alone or afraid even though i was so afraid myself, and the trauma will haunt me always.Just dont understand why this painful technique is ever done without sedation, it seems extremely cruel. Just feel i dont know what to do with myself and needed to talk it out. This was my awful experience of euthanasia, and i will never allow another vet to do this again without sedation. Thanks for listening, broken hearted, xxx Jane

Hi guys, What is your cat's favourite spot in the house? Barsik's favourite place has always been "his" (it used to be ours, lol) armchair. Since recently, however, he began to love the chair next to the computer desk. If someone occupies the chair sitting at the PC, Barsik will always try to take his place there, too. He'll end up sitting either on your lap or behind your back (between your back and the chair back). I think he's plotting to take over the computer...

Do you keep a scratching post for your cat? Did you make it yourself or bought it?

So, I have 3 un-neutured male cats. I have been bugging my husband for a good six months to get them neutered because I knew it was only a matter of time before they started fighting. And lo and behold, the have indeed tfighting. The older one fights the middle one and the middle one goes and beats up on the youngest one. The older one, Kal, is around 2-4 years of age. The middle one, Billy, is between 1-3 years of age. The youngest one, Nibbler, is at most a year and a half. Nibbler gets the worst of it. If Billy even so much as sees Nibbler, the fighting begins. Well, not so much fighting as Billy jumping on him and Nibbler trying to get away. It's gotten so bad that Nibbler rarely comes in the house. And it's so weird because Billy and Nibbler used to love each other. My question is...how on earth do I keep them from fighting until I can get them to the vet? I'm calling the vet tomorrow to see what the price is. Another question, if I choose to get the younger one fixed first, will Billy stop jumping on him all the time? Cause the oldest cat is very rarely actually in the house so fights between him and Billy are rare. But Billy and Nibbler tend to occupy the same space, our room. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to stop letting Billy into our room and make that strictly Nibbler's space. I am sooo frustrated because the youngest one is my kitty and he is such a gentle soul. he doesn't even try to fight back. he just runs away...but Billy is faster. HELP!!!

No really, I can't get it. There are cats. There are dogs. There are hamsters, and rabits after all. Even parrots. But why snakes?..

Just got back from the SPCA in Malta and brought home the info needed to sponsor one of the animals Big dilemma! Which one should we sponsor? It's going to be a difficult choice, hoping you all will help us! We had originally decided that we'd sponsor Mopsy after reading about her, however, she has found a home! A lady at the SPCA told me that Mopsy used to always hide in the corner when visitors came. But one day this man came and Mopsy came right out to greet him and he took her home! It was so nice to hear that So, which of the 4 dogs and one cat should we sponsor?

I want to let my cat to the garden but I don't want her to escape. I have a 6 foot tall fence and there's also a brick wall garage with a flat roof. Do you think that's enough or I should put something like an electric fence? Although honestly the only thought about it freaks me out. Please advice!

My fellow dog lovers, have you ever wondered how much of a true dog lover you are? You can check it now and add your observations too. It must be fun. You are a true dog lover if... Your dog sleeps in your bed. You apologize if you have to move it a bit. Talking to your dog, you call yourself Daddy or Mommy. Nothing can be seen through the rear window of your car because it's all in noseprints of your dog. You call your dog with 32 different names and none of them makes sense. But your dog responds to them. You like people that like your dog. You despite people that don't like it. In your pocket, there's always a treat for your dog. You always put a second cover on your bed so that you dog feels most comfortable. You choose furniture, carpet, and clothes so that they suit your dog. The only photo on your work desk is a photo of your dog. You read people lectures about how responsible one should be raising up a dog. You do that any time you get a chance. You miss your breakfast to have a chance to walk with your dog before going to job. You are the only man in the street when it is raining cats and dogs - it's all because your dog needs walking. In the end of the day, you don't drink beer with your co-workers anymore because you have to rush to your dog. Your weekend plan is to walk with your dog (for both Saturday and Sunday). Your fridge is full of bones for your dog. You've never eaten all of your beefsteak or fried chicken - you share it with your dog. You don't hoover your flat as long as possible because your dog is afraid of the hoover. You keep on eating even if you've found some dog hair in your plate. When your dog gets older, you make some steps for it to ease climbing on to bed. When your husband and your dogs snore, it's your husband who grabs the pillow to sleep somewhere else. Your dog is the star of your website!

So I have a huge problem, I want a cat so badly but my roomie won't change her mind, she doesn't like cats. I'm very close to moving out and finding another place so I can have a cat but that involves so much hassle and we do get along well, I'd rather just find a way to convince my roomie, any ideas?

One of my friends is obsessed with having spiders as pets. He doesn't have any at the moment but he is going to get some in a while. The idea of having pet spiders seems sorta creepy to me. Am I too conservative? OK I can now be blamed and attacked by spider lovers - I don't mind - but just tell me: WHY do you like to keep spiders as pets? Is it just a matter of taste? Or do you get them to freak out people like me when I have to come over?

Saint bernards are big dogs that look severe and rather frightening, aren't they? I am going to take one soon but I have a question. Are they good as guard dogs? Compared to shepherds, for instance.
