Even after 10 years after retirement from the Army, I still wake up about 5 most mornings. Most of the time I just turn over and go back to sleep, but this morning Sammy noticed me awake and decided it was a perfect time for some quality scritching. So after 15 minutes of that, I decided I might as well get up and go pick up a Sunday paper. Fed the girls and started to head out, and found Rocky curled up on the doormat. He let me know that it was nice to see me, and would be even nicer if I went back inside and opened up a can of food for him as well. By the time everyone was fed, except me of course, and I put a pot of coffee on, it was light out. Off I go, get my paper,...

Weeble update: It's hard to wear the little buggar out!

Weeble LOVES to play now. And climb. he climbs up on the bed, the sofa. and US (not good when you're wearing shorts)!!! We've blocked off the kitchen (we don't want him getting behind the stove or fridge), so now he wanders all over the house. Caught him playing 'chase me' with Lizzie the other day: she would follow Weeble around until Weeble noticed her, and then she would flee, and Weeble would come wobbling/trotting/running as fast as his kitten-legs could carry him after her. Lizzie would jump up onto one of our antique footstools (we have 2 one shaped like a camel, one like a donkey, they have wooden legs, neck & head, with a leather covered cushion on their backs, my parents bought them when my dad was stationed in Morocco, long...

Fun Time wearing Hats

I talked to Junebug in Canada this morning and at her request put on my web cam. I've hardly used it. I suddenly realised I had a roomful of funny hats from around the world so started putting them on to show her. What a hoot. The face isn't much but the hats are great. Then Clyde had to be exhibited, then FluffySP and Bonnie in the middle of a meow. I laughed so much I thought I would share the show with some of my ng. friends if anyone is interested. I finished up by showing her my pet orchids. She is now going out to buy a web cam so that she can get in on the act, lol. Wonder what delights she has!!! I was working at my computer, usually the only light in the room when doing so is my desk lamp and a little light spilling in from the hall, when my two cats come charging into the room with Peepers leading and Smudge trailing. I am a little puzzled momentarily as I assume they are playing chase but when they come to a dead halt and stare at something moving on the ceiling I know it is not chase. I look around a bit but see nothing. Then I hear a loud buzzing that I think is a large moth, which is a common occurrence but not a sign of one. I am about to give up when a really large dragonfly suddenly appears between me and the computer and Peepers is in full action. But this dragonfly is having...

Robin, the lovebug

It seems someone dumped a cat on me way out here in the country. I have named him Robin because he is the color of a Robin. He is desperate for loving, winding about our legs and wanting to be picked up and loved. He gets ecstatic in my arms and loves his head and neck rubbed. He has a few old scratches around his head and neck, all healed and scabs peeling. But no deep wounds. He is in good shape. He seems to have only spent one night outside. I am keeping him on my enclosed porch where it is warm and sheltered, with food, water and litter and a good perch by a window. I bring him into the house after I put my 3 cats in the bedroom. We took some pictures and I posted them on alt.binaries. pictures.animals under this title. She's normally right here with me when I'm online, but now she's curled up on the bed. She chatters at me when I walk into the bedroom. And she purrs contentedly when I stroke her. But she's content to stay there and just snooze. I've got her on hairball formula cat food (Purina ONE) which she likes. Wondering if I should take her to the vet. It's not like she's overtly sick. She plays and sits in the window watching the squirrels and the birds. Oh, she loves the new kitty sock I got for her! She is active most of the time. My neighbor was moving, and like so many stories I've heard in the past, the movers opened a door that was supposed to stay closed. Maya, a strictly indoor cat, bolted outside and disappeared. Well, today I learned that, after missing for about 6 weeks, the neighbors found Maya. She had found her way home and was hiding under the new tenants' car. The neighbors tried to feed her, but unfortunately, Maya had been injured, or possibly poisoned. She could barely walk, and was convulsing. Ultimately she had to be helped on the way to the RB. The Blue Cave is a bit of a dump, but some of the pilots from the base here play in a band and the Blue Cave lets them take the stage once a week, so I try to go and show my support. The Blue Cave is also very aptly named, because it is semi-subterranean and sports blue carpet that goes all the way up the walls, as well as a blue pool table. So at about midnight last night, after any real customers had been driven from the premises by the awful sounds of the band (hey, I never said they were any good!) and only the obligatory friends crowd remained, the owners of the Blue Cave let their 3 cats out into the bar. When Persia first acquired me, she escaped after a month for 24 hours and I was frantic. I immediately took her to the vet and had her chipped. This is a good thing to do for your beloved pets, folks. While I *do* feel for those who apparently tended to this cat in the story for 10 years, they obviously let him/her outside to wander and he finally wound up at a pound where they discovered the chip. I wouldn't want anything to happen to my dear sweet Persia, so I had her chipped. If she runs off and is taken anywhere where they have sense, they will scan her and find out she belongs to me. Chris Inglis' sleek, black feline, Ted, was fitted with the chip back when the technology was still new in the early 1990s.
