Physical characteristics

The Brittany is a medium-sized dog with a quite athletic build. The eyes are amber or hazel, depending on the coat colour. The nose is not necessarily black. The floppy ears are set high and have a triangular shape. Brittany dogs are born with both long and short tails; if it is long, the tail is docked to less than 4 inches. The gait is elegant and free.

The height ranges from 17 to 21 inches, and the weight is 30 to 40 pounds.

Temperament

The Brittany is a gentle dog with a good nature and enthusiastic character, especially in hunting (so it is easy to train it to hunt). They are very affectionate, loyal, agile, and active. However, some individuals can be nervous and hyperactive, so these dogs require extensive socialization at an early age. They are independent more than other dogs, and are known as "free-thinkers". This breed is better suitable for active outdoor people or hunters. The Brittany is good with children only if raised with them from puppyhood. Usually good with other pets.

Coat and grooming

The Brittany has a short single coat that comes in orange-and-white and liver-and-white colours. The pattern is usually clear or roan, with some ticking.
Regular grooming is necessary to keep the coat in a good state. Shedding is light in this breed.

Health

Brittanys are basically healthy dogs. However, hip dysplasia and epilepsy can sometimes occur. Keep the ears clean: excessive hair inside them must be trimmed to avoid infections and other problems.
The lifespan of these dogs is 10 to 12 years.
