for two weeks Now I don t know if I should leave my cat at home and have someone come and check up on her feed her every day or if I should bring her to a kennel The problem is I don t have anyone whom I trust 100 to take care of her I mean the person in mind doesn t have animals so he could not groom her and probably wouldn t be able to tell if there was something wrong with her if she got a little ill Whereas if I left her at home at least she d be in a place where she d feel comfortable unlike in a kennel I really don t know what the best thing is Does anyone have any experiences with leaving their pets in a kennel

Re: Listing Of Animal Rescue Groups In CA Fire kennel at night i had to resort to this because he was indoor outdoor but he kept peeing in the basement he has always been a problem cat and anyone else would have given up on him long ago i resorted to the kennel thing and he doesn t seem to mind it at all and i KNOW where he is at night it a oversized kennel the point is i think the room solution sounds pretty good like the other poster said you re all the cat has and if you need your sleep then kitty gets assigned his own little room if he won t pipe down sounds logical to me

Re: New raves about how Rottweilers are vicious and not to be trusted but theywere perfect family dogs and excellent around my children nq Rottweilers are only vicious because idiots buy them and train them to be vicious There s a lovely rottweiler at our local boarding kennels the owner has at least six dogs including rottweiler boxer male two red setters and some mongrels She s a lovely dog but got a bit too interested in my iguana when I brought him out there Harvey and I retreated to the security of the car and she put her paws up on the door to look in the window at kitten and a 5 month old kitten now My husband and I go away some weekends during the month and we board our kittens They re perfectly fine They get fresh water twice a day food twice a day with dry food in between a nice big window ledge to sit on and lots of sunshine and a warm place to sleep Generally with a boarding kennel cattery all they require that cats and dogs have up to date shots Watson my youngest didn t have all his shots when we had to board him so we put him and Greuber in the isolation ward They had the whole area to themselves which provided lots of opportunities to explore around the room and the other cages The cattery I use here for my kittens and German Shepherd are probably the best I ve seen It s a miniature holiday for them My mother OTOH leaves her 5 cats at home when she goes somewhere She came to visit me for 3 weeks I live on the other side of the world basically and she had our neighbour feed the cats I would get paranoid about that when I was living at home because they still have the opportunity to get hurt in some way At least in a cattery you know they re safe and won t get run over or poisoned or drown in your toilet I m sure it s happened before and you don t have to worry about your cat possibly not being fed If you re going to board your cat see if your vet clinic offers a boarding service If there s a cattery nearby ask to inspect the facilities and or talk to some of the clients To me you always get what you pay for Aphrodite s Cat There are two things you can do when you re dressed like Barbie Does Bondage You can either be aggressive or be embarrassed Anita Blake nq 1 I have 2 wonderful cats that happily share my NYC apartment with me For the first time since they joined my well earned and first in too long first time since they joined my well earned and first in too long vacation worrying about my cats What would be easier on the cats nq We have left our indoor only cat alone for four nights with no ill effects When you leave clean the litter box leave out 2 lbs of dry food and at least a 1 2 gallon of water That should do it The boarding kennel alternative has the drawback of you cats being in close quarters with other cats animals that have communicable diseases Better alone than sick when you get back Philip Never let school interfere with your education Mark Twain keeps the cat at normal body temperature Here is the link http tinyurl com qjd8 You could probably find the same item in the UK nq That s precisely the same item I bought only when I got it it was labeled as a dog kennel heating pad I guess they finally figured out that cats would like it too The faux sheepskin cover is one sheet with elastic bits to slip over the corners of the pad which is rigid After I got it I realized I could have thrown something together which was just as good for far less or nothing Priscilla

Re: Outside pet dog they stupidly went up and fondled without permission it s most likely death for the dog that s what s friggin what nq Okay let s all back track here a bit First my sucker punch commentwas embedded fairly deeply in adiscussion of what goes on whenpeople who as a matter of profession HAVE to handle MANY unfamiliardogs What I was trying to conveywas that once in a great while adog that is not giving off anyworrisome vibes will suddenly proveto be significantly more difficultthan expected Sometimes theywill even go so far as to bite Itdoes happen but it is rare enoughnot to instill paranoia in most peoplewho work the front lines of handling Ask any groomer vet tech ACO shelterhandler boarding kennel employee etc etc etc In point of fact there aregazillions of nips and even bites inthese contexts that as a generalmatter don t spell doom for thedog Now two fair points that I should haveconceded in one case and been clearerabout from the get go 1 There is abig difference in what is proper on thejob versus out in the parking lot 2 As I semi stated elsewhere already thespecifics of Kelly s approach ie leadingwith the face IS several steps removedfrom what can be considered properanywhere What wrankled and wrankles me isthe apparently widespread consentwith Jack s apparent contention thatthis probably very brief and fluidincident between a seasoned Pit Bullperson and what sounds like an utterlytypical Pit Bull was highly risky It wasnot risk free but nothing that Kellyconveyed about the situation makesit sound at all unlike what happenszillions of times a day between peopleless experienced than Kelly and dogsless reliably accepting of strangersthan Pit Bulls JohnRPit Bull LibertarianNever sneer at the power of a littlepink squeaky toy nq I too am trying very hard to getto the point where I can accuratelyarticulate what is and is not goingon in successful and unsuccessfulhuman dog interactions and handlingsituations The problem is that not onlyare the skills themselves more right than left brained but recognizingskills in others is also more right brained than left brained As an otherwisevery verbal guy it s been driving menuts for a long time that it s so friggin difficult to verbally communicateANYTHING useful about the things Ihave learned and put into practiceevery day However I have had a few breakthroughs in articulability Or at least I think I have I guess we ll find out First about the whole calm attentivenessthing To interact and handle potentiallydifficult unfamiliar dogs you HAVE tobe attentive You have to read body languageand you can t do it if you aren t observingclosely And the calm is both the resultand the reason for success Success iscalming to the human A calm humanattitude is calming to the dog Something a little more concrete or maybe a lot more is what I call changing the approach While asuccessful handler can t be tentativeand should have an intuitive plan A for the initial approach s he alsocan t be rigid and absolutely can tbarrel ahead with plan A come whatmay The whole point of watchingthe dog s body language is to seenot only its initial and or generalstress level but to monitor signsof change in the dog s stress level If the dog is becoming more calm obviously things are going well asplanned But it is not infrequentlythe case that the dog s stress levelwill suddenly spike That tells the clueful handler inteactor that itis time to back off a bit and alterthe manner of approach And thereis a feedback loop here as well Notonly will a different approach be moreacceptable to the dog but the veryact of backing off and changing theapproach tells the dog that you canrecognize its signals and even moreimportantly that you give a damn aboutwhat it is feeling This in itself is calmingto the dog Anyway it s often easier to describe obviousbreaches of good handling interactingthan it is to describe good handling interactingitself One of the most common screw upsoccurs when people move too fast stressthe dog get stressed by the dogs stresssignals and then of all the stupid things SPEED UP in response Example A handshy dog being put back in the kennel thatstresses when the loop of a slip lead andthe accompanying hand pass over nearthe head and face will generally be morestressed when the move is done tooquickly But many people when theysee the stress signals or the actualattempted nip or bite will tend to panicand move MORE quickly Now thereARE times when you have to outwit outmaneuver and therefore outquick a dog But if you want the relationshipto be more than a one shot bit of emergencyanimal control handling you gotta learnto slow down and if the dog starts tostress SLOW DOWN EVEN MORE It CAN work wonders One of myemployees who is generally a verygood handler but who has had problemswith going too fast and then speedingup in the face of trouble beautifullyhandled a dog today who had givenhim trouble in the past by doing theexact opposite of what his reflexeshad been telling him to do I wasextremely pleased to see it butnot as pleased as my employee was But the dog was the most pleasedof all Anyway this is just one small exampleof one particular problem within what isactually a very large subject matter JohnRPit Bull LibertarianNever sneer at the power of a littlepink squeaky toy
