Well, yesterday there was a deer in our backyard and very quickly Queenie burst through the screen door and was off after her. Of course they ran across the road, but luckily there were no cars. I called and called Queenie but to no avail. I came inside to quickly change clothes and put on shoes, and when I went back out the door, she came tearing back up to the house and ran in the door.
I'm glad she wasn't hurt and felt really good that she came back so quickly. I thought she might take the opportunity to go on the lam. I think this showed that she's pretty strongly bonded to us, and I feel good about that.

yikes! that must've gotten your heart racing. elliott's gone walk about a couple of times, and it scared the hell out of me. in his case, i don't think he was chasing anything in particular. he just decided to go exploring.

It was really scary. It was just pure luck that she wasn't hurt out there.

So, does anyone know of any dog-proof screen doors? My house is basically a gazebo with slightly more structure I have 2 sliding doors and french doors in the living room, and one slider in the den I really like having them all open when the weather is fine. However, for the time being, they're staying closed!

Its great that she came right home after she lost the deer!! We got the screen doors with the screen at the top due to fear of this scenario with all the moose across the street in the park.

You might be able to use the aluminum add-ons. I got mine at the hardware store. There's apparently also a plexiglass option, but that seems a bit slime-able to me.
I'm glad you and yours are safe after such a scare.

LOL - it is! I've never tried one of these. I did have a screen "grill" over a door many years ago, and it was quite effective.

I have had to replace my screen door in this house once. Husband arrived home from work, dog was excited to see him and forgot all about a close screen door, and flew right through. Oops. She loved her people and couldn't wait to get to them.

Thanks. I may try that. I was thinking I would just need to buy a new screen door.
