My cat has a friend...a younger cat who may or may not have a home in this big apt complex. It now sleeps all the time on our patio...but I don't feed it so it must be eating somewhere. My cat doesn't seem to be disturbed by all this. Any recommendations. I do not need another cat!

Hi ,
You need to find if the cat has a home. Ask your vet or local Rescue to check for a microchip and check their records of lost and found. Put a collar on the cat asking if it belongs to someone and ask around . If you can't find the owner then it would be best to find it a home.

Do you have any choice?? LOL

This always makes me wonder. Does the cat have a home is is just coming over to play with yours or is he/she lost or abandened or rejected or what. Do you take him/her in or feed it or leave it alone. If you feed it, it would be encouraged to stay. If if doesn't have a home, it needs to be fed.
Tough choice. Cats will almost always eat a little snack so it is hard to tell if they are really hungry or just looking for something different. If it was skinny, it would be easier to decide, but what do you do if it appears well cared for? I would hate to "steal" someone's cat, but would also not want to reject it if it needs help.

I obtained my first cat because he wandered into my parent's yard and proceeded to build a nest. After a few days, we concluded he was not going away and I offered him food and he was very hungry. He ended up coming home with me and seemed very happy to do so. I looked for signs and ads and never saw any about him.
A few months ago, I found a rather expensive camera that had been placed on a fence near my home. I put an ad in the paper and it was not claimed. The police had no reports of a lost camera so they advised me to just keep it.
They have my number if a claim is ever made. By coincidence, it is an exact match to a camera that I own so now I have a spare body and lens. It is worth about $125USD used so the owner should have wanted it back. The point of this is that you might never find the owner, no matter how hard you try.

Boy, that's REALLY how cats operate. I think you need to take the hint. Do you only have the one cat? If so, you definitely could take this kitty in. Put a color with a note on it saying you want to know if this cat is owned. If you get no response, you know it is a gift for you and your kitty. And you shouldn't look gift cats in the mouth.
When they don't go away its because they have no where to go away to. Your neighbours cats may come over but they will then go home a cat which is always there has no home to go to. If they are friendly they realise they have to find someone to feed them so they move to a person who looks friendly usually this person will have a cat of their own. I don't know if they intentually look for other cats or these are just the people who respond but it often seems to work out that way.

The number of cats who are dumped, left behind, or even get lost is amazing. Take the cat in and then look for an owner. Local shops people on the street, neighbours ask around put an add in the paper and contact the local shelters and let them know you found a cat but bring him in.

Take them in always and ask around the put the cat in a cat carrier and go for a walk to visit your neighbours, ask if they ever saw the cat before or know who it belongs to but don't leave it there. I've done this just driving down the street and seen a cat in an area I didn't think was safe pop cat in basket and go walking will usually find you the home if there is one.

Cats that wolf down food are hungry but a starved cat could be lost and a stray could have just been feed by a neighbour. Don't ignore them and wait though, I feed everything I see within reason of course and never has a persons cat stayed they will still go home if they have a home to go to.
