I know a guy that is going home to live with his parents. only thing is that he will have to give up his garter snake in order to go home. his parents don't want anything to do with any of his pets but he can't afford to live on his own right now. he has come to terms with the idea of leaving his other animals (fish, rodents, birds, other herps, and the like) but he just can't give them ALL up. he has settled on his garter snake, hommie, his favorite pet.

what he needs to know is how can he get it to his parents house while riding in the same truck as his dad for roughly 15,000 miles in the winter time, and then what kind of set up would be good for keeping hommie in in secret? he is a very small garter eastern garter snake that is eating small gold fish, for what scott, my friend , tells m every 3 days or so. he really wants to keep this snake but he doesn't want to harm him trying to sneak him in under the radar.
any suggestions would be great!

I'd say the best way to transport the snake is under his shirt. He should tell his parents the truth, insist maybe, I mean he should be old enough to stand for his ideas in front of his parents. If they find the snake they probably kill it or throw it out in the cold, so it's better to put the cards on the table.
Besides that, goldfishes are known to be a fatty diet. Maybe some little fresh fishes from the market?

P.S.: are you sure about the 15.000 miles? The US are 4.500 km wide (that's aprox. 2800 miles). His parents should live really far from him.

I would suggest being honest and not trying to sneak around your parents. How old is this guy, anyway?

If he's going to live w/ his parents, then he needs to abide by their rules. Refusal of this will, and should, have his butt out on the street. NO ANIMAL is worth the breakdown of a family relationship.

Yeah. I'd just have to find a way to keep my independence.
