This is WHY PB's get such a bad rap as people hear BITE and they think PIT BULL

Take this taste and see how good you are at spotting a Pit Bull.

I chose the right one the first time BTW.

AHH TEST TASTE TASTY..
Must have been thinking in dog mode...

I chose the right one the first time

Not me. I picked dogue first, then cane corso.
The mastiffs, lab, JRTs, rottie, bull terrier, swissy, and boxer I had no problem identifying. I wasn't able to name any specific mastiff, but I knew they were of that persuasion.
I have to admit that I mis-identified the american bulldog as an overweight boxer. I also initially thought the catahoula was a mixed breed (never saw a black one), and I knew the swissy was "one of those mountain dogs," but wasn't sure which.
Good test. I am usually pretty good at identifying breeds in the store, and often have people exclaim, "You're the first person who knew what he is!" But I guess I've just been lucky, according to this test. :}

I fully admit that I have a problem identifying some of the little dust-mops, especially the white ones. I seem to have a mental block against shih tzus - never sure what they are when I see them. Got bichons down, because no matter what the cut or size of dog (and it REALLY varies :}, there are those unmistakable bichon eyes. And I guessed right on Maltese the last couple of times, though I wasn't 100% sure.
The other day, I embarrassed myself by asking a puppy owner if he was a GSD mix. She kind of sniffed, and said "No, he's a belgian shepherd." But I redeemed myself when I said, "Oh, a malinois!" She brightened and laughed, saying "Yup, it was the only belgian I could pronounce." :}

Me too, by the way. I can spell (maybe? sort of?) the other two - groenendahl and tervuren? Am I close? But how in the world do you pronounce them?

Well WAY BACK in the late 80's the dog pounds and shelters were going PB crazy and any that came in were put down, and I went in full mode and got SUCH INSANITY STOPPED, at least here .
So I tried to DRILL it into people what breed (that looked like a terrier)is what and what mix is probably what.

I have a friend that has a catahoula and about ten years ago another friend brought up an AMerican Bulldog from down South, so I had an edge on knowing aout them.

I have a friend that has 6. : )

I do not know my small fluffy dogs much either.
I will say that I can usually tell what line a Chessie is from, though. : )

Spelling is fine
I pronounce it TER VU IN.
GWON IN DOLL
But this might just be my accent.

How is the eye?

Tervueren (w/ or w/o the "e" in the center) is easiest to remember by this: Belgian Tervuren pronounced properly, rhymes with Martin van Buren.
Groenendael is different, depenedent upon who you talk to. I've heard people that have more European influence (ie: people that have been to Europe, toured kennels, imported dogs and the like) pronounce it like "grawn-in-dawl" or even "gren en dawl" But, I've also heard it spoken as "gren en dale" or even "groan en dale". FWIW, I pronounce it like the first example. Or, easiest, "Black Dawg". :-) Malinois "Mal n wah" (I know someone that has that on their vanity plates and frequently gets waves from k-9 police officers!). And Laekenois "lack en nois" :-)
Shelly & The Boys
I personally would like to know how many people picked the Lab...

Well, I'm pleased to report that
I didn't embarrass myself on this
test, but to be perfectly honest,
I would have done less well if the
test hadn't made clear at the
start that there was one and
only one Pit Bull.
A very experienced old-timer
ADBA show judge once guessed
that the Truly Legendary StaffyRat
was a Canadian-bred Pit Bull.
I'll have to check out those Canadian-
bred Pit Bulls some day.

Never sneer at the power of a little
pink squeaky toy!
They don't say. However one of my Chessies looks a lot like that pic and lots of people have asked me if my CBR was a PB.
Go figure!
Paulette~
Yes that would have been me as well.
Although the little PB just stood out to me as she/he looked just like my Fanny I had many moons ago.
