Does anybody have any experiance with this mix? If so, can they tell me a bit about it? I need a quick reply. I might get the ownership of a one year old proly trained akita/pitbull mixed dog in a day or two..

Thanks for any reply! Emotion: smile

What is proly trained?
Do you have other dogs? Do you like go places with dogs off leash? If you do, then this is not a good bet for you. Both breeds are naturally dog aggressive. Socialization can mitigate the tendency but will not eliminate it. A dog of this breeding should never be off leash in the presence of other uncontrolled dogs.
Do you have children or might you have children in the next ten years or so? If properly socialized and trained this mix might be fine with children BUT can be a management problem because children are not good at closing doors and gates. This mix can be a liability if it is on the street off leash and unsupervised because the risk of attacking another domestic animal is high.
How do you feel about predatory behavior in dogs? If a neighbor's cat comes into your yard and the dog kills it will you feel anger at the dog - or at the neighbor? I would expect that this mix will possibily accept small pets while in the house, but may well attack and kill small pets encountered outside in the yard, especially non-family animals.

Just make sure that you are ready to accept the kind of qualities that come with the dog. Predatory behavior and dog aggression are to be expected. As with any powerful breed attention to obedience training is required to prevent the dog from making its own decisions about who is allowed in the house etc.

i know someone with a pit/akita mix who cannot be around any small animals, other dogs, or children. they love the dog very much and keep him out of any situation where he could encounter these problems.

it's a lot of work to handle an aggressive dog, or even one that people just think is aggressive. read my post "anyone have experience with animal control" to see what recently happened to me, and this is with a solid dog who loves people. all it takes is for people to get excited or scared of your breed, or a fight with another dog, for your dog to be in danger of being destroyed.
if you're willing to do the work and take the risk, both breeds can be wonderful dogs. i'd try to find more about the background, why the owner is getting rid of it, and hang out with the dog a bit to check temprement before adopting.
good luck!

Well, the dog has just turned on year old, has been alot alone at home.
From what I heard from my friends, the owner has tried to make trainhim to be agressive. The dog eats ... into your yard and the dog kills it will you feel anger at the dog - or at the neighbor?

Neither, I'd feel sorry for the neighbor.

I am fully aware of how much training the dog needs. I've had dogs before. I have allso worked close with the K9 squad at my base while i was in the army. Picked up alot there when it comes to training.

Hab.

The person is posting from Norway. I don't mind
misspellings half as much as I mind that IM crap. It's starting to show up at work in email from some of the younger engineers. Blech.

Thank you ("poorly"). In the US, the cyber shorthand has gotten really annoying and "prolly" is some sort of word for "probably". Sorry that I didn't notice you were not from the US!
