Hi all,
Almost a year ago, I got a leopard gecko at a pet shop which the seller swore was an albino gecko. It was very young and did look different from reguarly-patterned leos, but also didn't look nearly as pale (or have the red eyes) as the albinos pictured on sights like this: http://www.albinogecko.com/ I thought maybe her coloration would change with time, since that's happened a bit with some of my other geckos, but her colors have only barely faded.
My question: do you think she's really an albino? I have pictures here:
http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?selected=429997 (in image0001, she's the one on the right). Do the colors and dark eyes mean she's not an albino, or do some albino leos just look darker, like this one?
Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom! Emotion: smile

Hypomelanistic. Not albino.

I don't think "albino" leopard geckos have red eyes. BUT - they don't have any dark markings on their body. Your gecko has dark markings, but they're not black... so it has a reduced amount of melanin. So, hypomelanistic.

I think. Emotion: smile

Nope, just a high yellow gecko. Nothing special, definitely NOT an albino, not even a Snow!!!
Sorry for the bad news!!!

I'd say it's a high yellow.

I was thinking that true albinos of any species, including human, have red or pink eyes. But then I usually think wrong..lol.

Shes not an albino..she looks like a lavendar because of the lavendar bands on her

Well, if we're going to say "true albino", then it wouldn't apply to reptiles. A reptile cannot fit the scientific description of a true albino.

I'll go digging for Patrick Alexander's informative post on this subject, now.

Well, actually there are a few morphs out there that lack all forms of pigmentation. Those could fall under the complete definition of albino.
