Think BUNGEE cord here, Amy. That would account for the smooth, graceful takeoff.

Another way to facilitate a smooth take off would be to get a static image of the granny and animate it so she looks like she's flying.

But you can build in all sorts of complexity into your scenario if it makes you happy.
We could also suggest that osteoporosis has made her bones hollow and bird-like.

That's definitely possible, Montana.
And as a skeptic, I rule out nothing.
But you can build in all sorts of complexity into your scenario if it makes you happy.

It does make me happy! And it wouldn't need to be complex.

It would be quite easy, actually. If you ever saw one of the extractions I'm talking about, you'd quickly realize just how easy it would be to duplicate the "Granny" film.
We could also suggest that osteoporosis has made her bones hollow and bird-like.

Sarcasm will get you nowhere, Montana!

I have seen how those work! I'd suggest that you can't be married and have cable without seeing all sorts of military stuff on the History Channel (or the Military Channel).
And how is my bird bone supposition any less realistic than theorizing that the film makers got a husky 25 year old to dress up like a granny to do a bungee extraction? All theories are valid until eliminated by proof.

2. "Granny's" motion is incorrect. Getting yanked off one's feet, ... that put me to bed with ice packs and ibuprofen.

Think BUNGEE cord here, Amy. That would account for the smooth, graceful takeoff.

H'mm, I intended just to comment on flaws in the depiction, but now you've got me thinking about "how was it done," it looks to me like Granny is lifted (and swung forward) from a point at the back of her neck/shoulders.
In fact, there is a bungee system used by the military services to extract soldiers and marines from behind enemy ... get snatched into the air by the plane, they look very much like our "Granny" looks in that film clip.

I haven't seen those, but a pulley arrangement such as might be used in a stage presentation of Peter Pan, with an attachment point at the upper back, seems as though it could duplicate the motion closely. Why, even I know how to use Photoshop to make an artifact like a pulley and line disappear.
Cheaper than hiring an aircraft.
Granny would get acting points for raising her arm and turning her head forward at the right moment.

Then you also must know how easy it would be to rig up a stuntman to act as "Granny" and "fly" away, as per the film clip?
I'd suggest that you can't be married and have cable without seeing all sorts of military stuff on the History Channel (or the Military Channel).

You bet. Ever watch Sgt. R. Lee Ermey and "Mail Call"?

He's my main man, mon.
And how is my bird bone supposition any less realistic than theorizing that the film makers got a husky 25 year old to dress up like a granny to do a bungee extraction?

Heh.
Yeah, your hollow-boned, osteoporotic "Bird Woman" theory is a so very realistic!
Riiiight.
All theories are valid until eliminated by proof.

That's what I'm talking about!
Proof.
Haven't found any yet.
Still lookin'.

Kind of like she might be wearing a harness under her granny dress? And have a bungee cord attached to it, running inside her right sleeve? And then being "extracted" by it?
Notice how quickly she slaps that left hand down onto the reel, right before the "leash" tightens? I don't think a real Granny would think to do that. "She" just wants to spread the shock over two arms instead of one, like a stuntman would want to do.

Yeah, it could be a pulley arrangement, too. Like the ones they use in Hollywood, to show people falling or jumping from buildings.

But pulley arrangements are much more complex to rig than a simple harness and bungee-cord snatcher.
Why, even I know how to use Photoshop to make an artifact like a pulley and line disappear. Cheaper than hiring an aircraft.

Heh.
I don't think they used an aircraft.
But maybe a car or truck, or trolley of some kind.

I sure wish I knew the truth.
It's bugging the hell out of me.

Download the video, look at it frame by frame and follow the FlexiLeash handle.

And Mail Call doesn't do it for us or my dad, a decorated Pacific Theater WWII marine, who says the guy's a showboat. "Real" marines don't act like that and there haven't been "real" marines since 1940 something.

With all due respect to your father, I'm a "real" decorated marine from the 60s, in Vietnam.
And one thing that "real" marines never do (unless he's doing it with a wide, ***-eating smile on his face) is to berate the service and sacrifice of other marines.

If he's a "real" marine, he won't use his age as an excuse. Emotion: big smile

Never suggested that he berated the service or sacrifice. In his opinion, it's a different organization than it was in his day.

I said I wasn't going to argue with him. It's a respect thing. He gets to be who he is without comment from me. YMMV.
