And yes, one bite was from a "rescued" ball python ... just messy and kind of a pain in the butt.

Ha ha! My favorite bite story is when my boa struck at my adult boxerwhile I was holding her. She ... my shirt along with my flesh, and it took a moment to pry her off. It was rather shocking. Emotion: wink

Yes for the snake LOL

I can imagine......
I was bitten a couple of times during feeding mishaps when I had a pair of redtails. Babs was a BIG girl at 8 ft. and sprained my thumb both times.
Quite a bit of strength behind the strike of a large Boid!!!

The funniest part of the BP bite story came later...

A couple of days afterwards before I healed up, I was hanging around down in the ER on a slow night at work, (I work in the lab) and one of the doctors that knew I liked snakes asked me if I knew what a non-venemous snakebite looked like as they'd just gotten in a kid with a bite.
I said "sure!" and lifted up my shirt as I had a perfect double row of teethmarks in my stomach from both the upper and lower jaws. I said "It looks just like this".
The shocked look on the faces of a couple of the nurses made it all well worth it! ROFL!!!
Turns out he'd been bitten by a large Texas ratsnake. They'd beaten the poor thing with a 2x4 but it was still alive.
They let me take it home and I took it to the vet, but that's another story.
Yes, it survived. ;-)

I guess those fish-hook shaped teeth can be a problem in such cases, no? ;-D
Ever had one leave a tooth in your skin?

I'm in austin.gardening, and there's a snake phobia thread going over there. Mothers with little kids who have never been around snakes. I'm glad I'm not afraid of anything..

Hi. I am due to get a Ball Python tomorrow from a friend who can no longer keep it due ... claim they are? I suppose i am asking this question to owners who have had experience with keeping these snakes.

It is extremely rare that a ball, or any snake, would bite and hold on. Most of the time if they strike, they realize IMMEDIATELY that they made a huge mistake and back off quickly. I've gotten tagged a couple times, mostly because the snake was getting ready to shed and with impaired vision, mistook me for a prey item. It's usually pretty painless, maybe two pricks and a drop or two of blood and that's all.

I'd say don't worry about it.

Do you suppose they'd thank us for that? Can't right now anyway, I just read and deleted all the posts. Maybe they just haven't made it to you yet.
