Occasionally, I have to give my 14-lb. female Peke some Deramaxx for a problem in her elbow joint but cannot give it to her all the time and am wondering what the best substitute would be to help her with chronic pain - aspirin or acetaminophen? Which is safer? Dosage?

The Deramaxx is quite expensive at $55.37 for 30 tablets - 25 mg. and I feel not to give it to her on a long term basis either.

Thanks so much for any suggetions.

Absolutely, positively, NOT acetaminophen. It's toxic to both dogs and cats. As for aspirin, it's ok, but you really should talk to your vet about your monetary concerns so s/he can give you the correct dose and type of aspirin to use.
