Hi I'm Diana in Austin Tx. I bought 2 Border Collies last week. They are 8 weeks old today. I started to paper train them right away. I use wee-wee pads from Petco. They're doing pretty good. I also take them outside every 2 hours or so. This morning they got out of their area and ran through the house leaving me little and big presents. Did I not do a good job or is this normal in puppies. Please help me with any advice you have. Thanks in advance.

Throw away the wee-wee pads. Crate train the puppies (separate crates). Take them out more frequently - every hour when they're awake, or right upon awakening. Feed them scheduled, measured meals - separated bowls - they each need to eat their own food only.

there's a lot more to it than that of course, and a good puppy kindergarten class would be a very good thing. Raising 2 pups is not simple - they easily start to care what the other one thinks and not what you think - treat them as individuals as much as possible.

And excellent puppy book is "Mother Knows Best" by Carol Lea Benjamim.

Thank you Janet but I can't seperate them. They love it other so much and cuddle when they are asleep. I've never crated a dog before. Thank you for your post Janet.
Rocky your post was not good. This why I started not post anything.

Warning to Janet: You cannot help people like this.

There's just no there there.
Say a prayer for the puppies and then go help someone else.

So many dogs, so little time.

What you mean is you won't separate them, not that you can't.

If you continue to let them be together at all times, you WILL create dogs who really don't care anything about you and care only about each other. You are setting yourself up for some real problems later on.

Janet's advice was sound. Get two crates. They are not cruel, they are not cages. They are nice, safe, warm dens. Separate the dogs except for limited supervised play. Keep them either in their crates or tethered to you. Take them outside frequently and just after eating. Dump the wee-wee pads. Dump the paper. Be vigilant.

IMO, the best thing that can happen to these two puppies is for "Diana" to find at least one of them a new home.
Two Border Collie litter-mates? Together in one home? A home currently occupied by someone without a clue?

Memo to Border Collie Rescue: Find some more rooms at the inn. You're going to need them. And soon.
