I don't think I could do this myself. When the vet does it there is always a small amount of bleeding and she has to apply antiseptic (I think that's what it is) when she finishes. My family is very attached to this bird and I'm not about to cause harm to him.

By the way, looks like Zach Q is Jynx? How many names does this guy have?

Is that a rhetorical question, Robert (aka finiteguy)?

Sounds like your vet doesn't know what he's doing. I rarely see blood when clipping nails.

Infinite - maybe a difficult concept for someone who has limited himself to being finite.
ZQ
Actually I'm not sure if there is blood but I do know that she applies something after she clips the nails. It is usually a two person operation one holds the bird while the other does the clipping.

As far as" knowing what she is doing", this lady has been in business for many years. I would assume that if she screwed up alot she would have been long gone. So far she has worked out okay, the only thing that I disagree with is that she told us to get rid of the seeds and use pellets only and dump all teflon pans. The bird eats both pellets and seeds, we don't burn telfon and the bird never does any of the cooking so he won't be effected by burnt telfon.
As for my choice of username (and I have only one) it has a meaning which has nothing to do with "finite versus infinite".

How the hell do you keep track of so many usernames?
I have a pet budgie and he usually gets a visti to the vet twice a year to get his ... that his nails are really long and very curved. Can this create a problem if I wait till the spring?

could you buy him one of those concrete perches to help them wear down?
Probably A good idea. Anyone else thinks it's okay? I know that people say that sandpaper is not good.
Also, it wa - 2 degrees F at my house this morning. Yesterday I cancelled the appointment with the vet in anticipation of extremely cold weather. I don't care how well the cage is covered from the door to the heated car, it just seems like the worng thing to do when it is so damn cold out. Hope this crappy waether doesn't last. Just got $350.00 worth of heating oil in less than 1 month.

Why would I need to keep track?

Tiny little budgies aren't nearly as fragile as you seem to want to believe. If you were to go from door to car with an uncovered cage in a blizzard and then have only minnimal heat in your car, the bird would be okay - it wouldn't be thrilled about it, but it wouldn't live through the inconvenience.
ZQ
Mr Jynx, is that a typo? It wouldn't live through the experience?
