Please click on this link to see a video of the wonderful work our Califnornia shelter workers do. Sure, they have to make tough decisions sometimes, but they are keeping us safe with their actions. They are true heroes, and I think they should be recognized for the thankless work they do. With the help of Sue Sternberg, many of these tough decisions were made. We can't thank Sue enough and look forward to her upcoming video on HBO about the wonderful work of our humane societies in America.
I'd like to thank you all for watching this moving video, set to a Pink Floyd song

I'm sorry if I have breached some sort of internet "netiquette" rules. I am only passing on information from a website that I thought might be useful.
I apologize for any slight, whether real or imagined.

Heh, the only breached rules seem to be those by Microsoft when my generic browser won't open some pages.
It's not your fault, so no need for an apology.

it isn't a web page anyway, it's a link to a windows media file. you can play it in windows media player, which is a free download from Microsoft. the statement that you need IE was misleading. it shouldn't matter what browser you have, as long as you have WMP.

You just need to have Winders if you're gonna run that Winders Media Player thing.

Ahem: MacOS

Even OSX? They still dancin' with the Devil?
Or you could run vmware on your Linux box.

Well yes of course. In the immortal words of John Cleese, "Can do, but won't."
And while I'm sure you all realize I was just being silly, in all honesty there's Winders on my work laptop as our IT department is mostly MS-centric, and I do use it at home for important things like Baldur's Gate and Planescape:Torment.

And how - the default OS X browser is IE, even. One of the real attractions of OS X is that it's a Unix that runs MS Office, given that Word and PowerPoint are pretty much the default document exchange formats at work.

I've had a PowerBook for about 5 months. I love it. I've been using Unix for a couple of decades ... work, but I need the Office and multimedia stuff for work. It's been just about perfect, and hasn't crashed, ever.

That's very cool. You've got me beat by a decade, as I got my start as a unix sysadmin at Qualcomm in the early 90's. I've never done much programming either - I don't think I have the mental discipline. However, if I did, I think I'd find systems programming much more interesting than anything higher up the ladder.

Maybe we'll bump into each other at a conference some time - the ones I have a chance of my employer sending me to would be NANOG, SANS, or Usenix.
To bring this around to something slightly dog-related, have you seen RFC 3203, Packet over Sheep Protocol? It will revolutionize broadbaand datacom in Scotland.
