My fiancé and I recently adopted two kittens... one aged 8 weeks (approx) and one age 7 months (approx). The 7 month old seems to be displaying signs of being in heat. They just had a check up and were in perfect health so it was the only reason we could think of as to her behaviour of sticking her butt in the air, more vocal behaviour and rubbing things. Is this about the age they go in heat or is it too early? Could she be older than we think?

TIA

Definitely sounds like a heat. Nope, 7 months is not too early - they can go into heat even earlier. Go ahead & make a spay appt. for her.

Thanks Cathy... it's breaking our hearts to hear her meows and see her not being herself. She is usually a very quiet cat.

She'll be much happier once you get her spayed.

That's estrus (heat). Cats can go into heat far younger than 7 months.

Yes, those behaviors are hard to mistake for anything else. She's in heat, and goodness no, 7 months is plenty old enough. Kittens can have their first heat cycle as young as 4-5 months. You should schedule to have her spayed as soon as possible.

Yes its seems like she is calling to me, be very careful she does not get out, cats/kittens can get through the smallest gap of an window left a jar, also they try and escape when calling! they can get pretty desperate! she is obviously too young to be mated anyway!
It can be very distressing for her and you when they are calling and she may keep calling every few weeks, its not good for her, can effect her body weight too, many loose weight and don't eat when calling. I should get in touch with your vet.
